emission problems in NYS

ok...this is a major problem....i bought some shorty dynomax headers and bolted them up...for a while since i was about to put the car away for winter ne ways, i just clamped a glasspack to the end of each header...this is wayyy illegal in ny for emissions and prolly sound as well.....so now that it is spring and i have the money...i need to buy a cat back system...problem is dynomax doesn't make y pipe to bolt to my headers...so i need to get one custom fabricated to fit the headers i have...after that goes the high flo cat and the rest of the system...3' back into dual tips etc....but the local shop said they cant touch, as in make a y pipe fit for me... :( ....:( ...what do i do ??? if ne one from ny knows the new inspection law and how i can get around it that would be a very helpful...its an 86'.

I'm not sure about the law in NY but I think they might do the work if you bring them the cat to put on while they put on the y pipe. Like I said I'm not sure emissions laws can be a real b!tch sometimes, call the shop up and ask them. Otherwise, you may have to do some custom exhaust work yourself, at least a good enough job so the shop will do the work you want anyways.

yeah, thats really odd that they wouldnt make you an exhaust. Did they give any reasons???

he said that he cant touch it because it's after market or something and he will lose his license...but i think he is just misunderstanding me...he said he wouldn't be able to do it ne ways cause the bends are too critical and there's no room...i mean dont they make pipe benders...all the guys on this forum have done it...so im kinda confused ?

Yeah, ask him why he can't do it then tell him either to find a way to do it or go find another shop, a business man who says he can't doesn't want/deserve your money.

i used hedman spent 240$ from jegs headers and y-pipe and never looked back took 45 mins to get the headers in, and like 1 hour to get the y pipe in best fit ever. absolutely perfect

yea i called a few more shops and they are saying they can do it as long as i have the cat on there still...but now that i look around some more, i think i may just cut the loss of the headers i have now since they were only 120$ and just get a new set that do come with a y pipe that way im know it will fit without any extra costs..thanks for the suggestions
