1996 V6 to LT1`

Hey all, it's me again. Previously I had inquired about putting a 455 into a 4th gen: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=380379
Well, that idea is now defunct as i managed to get an LT1 from a Cadillac Fleetwood off of Ebay for 350.00. I've still got to get the wiring harness and computer, as well as exhuast manifolds. I'm also gonna switch out the iron heads for the aluminum ones that came on the Firebird and Camaro. I'm currently making a list from a list I remember reading from a website where a guy did a swap with his black '94 firebird equipped with a 3.4, whereas mine is a '96 with a 3.8. So far my list of changeouts contains:
Swap two piece driveshaft for stronger one piece
Radiator
Swap rear end
Change rear drum brakes to rear disk
If you know of anything else that i need to add to the list or remove let me know. The biggest question I have so far is whether the transmission, 4l60-E, will bolt to it. I've read conflicting things on whether the bellhousing will bolt up or not. I've also heard that if you have to switch bellhousings you might as well get a new transmission. I've also read where most people say that you have to drop the engine and transmission out the bottom, yet I've seen pictures of people removing and putting the LT1 in from the top. I realize it's probably not as easy as just jacking up the car and droppping it, but pulling it from out from under the hood just seems like it would be easier in the driveway. Once again, any and all help is appreciated......unless it's just to say sell the car and buy one that already has a V8 in it, because that response is no help to anyone.

you have to look into whether you have a tranny with a bolt on housing, if not you will need a new tranny. dont think the bolt on housing came on f-bodies til later, so you will more than likely need different tranny.
as for the pullin of the engine, apparently you can pull from the top when you remove radiator and stuff. heard that is how chilton says to do it, i have the GM service manual and can look it up for you if you want.
the camaro/firebird LT1s did not come with aluminum heads, as far as i know. you can get aftermarket heads that are aluminum though
swap list:
fuel lines
fuel pump
shocks
springs
front crossmember
the power steering gear box(not necessary)
gauge cluster
heater hoses
exhaust
obvisously ECU and harness

I have a 93 Cadillac Fleetwood. Just curious, does that have an LT1 in it? I know it's a 5.7L.

If your correct about it being a 93 model, and if it has TBI, then no. It came with the L05 engine. Years 94-96 came with the LT1.

Thanks chevyracin and everyone else. The website was v6swap.com i believe. it doesn't exist anymore near as i can tell, kicking myself for not copying the whole website to my computer. I ran across it a couple years ago. He had listed everything he used for the swap, even what he bought to upgrade, like Posi and such, and how much he paid for them on ebay. He also had good pictures of his swap. he was using a '94 Black V6 firebird. i remember he ran into some interesting complications as the LT1 he had came from a '96 model with the dual cat setup.
