i have took it upon myself to change my starter. I've bought the repair manual and thorougly followed directions for removal. removed the necessary, but the book does not tell how to disconnect the gray wire connecter. i 've squeezed the side, looked for tabs, pulled on it, there is a thick wire wrapped in black electrical tape right over it, which makes it hard to get to, but i can see part of it and feel it. any solutions?

Tape has to go. Sometimes the connectors stick; lube it with WD-40 or similar, be liberal, let it sit for a while. Use two flat screwdrivers: one to press the lockup, another to yank the connector off.
Checkout bottom of page to download "connector etc pictures"... btw: -94 manual is about the same as -96.

You may also cut the wire. Take it first out from the plastic conduit. On installation, (u may add one feet wire and) solder on, wrap self vulcanizing tape to seal the wire.
