I still don't know why I did, but today I bought my friends black 1994 Mazda Cosmo Type S off him for $26,500, he was getting into heavy debt and was going to sell his car to some boy-racer fool but I stepped in and placed down an offer of $26,500 and 10 minutes later I was in the drivers seat.

For those of you who don't know the Cosmo is powered by a triple-rotor 20B rotary engine it puts out around 230bhp and can top over 150mph it is also stuffed with luxury features. I will fix you up with a pic or 2 later (From the previous owner not me)

It comes as a good car to phase out the 2002 which is playing up and costing heaps in the process and will be something to look forward to when I come to NZ twice-a-year, while I am gone I will leave it with my brother in law

yo Jimmy, 230HP, try more like 320HP.
we have a big bore and trust filter etc on ours, ported etc and once we rifd the problem of rnning rich, it should be good for 450HP with a little more boost.

BTCHN7- The standard output for a type S is 226bhp, but I will take it for a dyno test just to be certain.
Sorry for no pics guys, but I face 10 days without it  (I took the Peugeot down to Wellington)

Jimmy you will find that 226Hp must be a figure for the 13B models.
All the 20B models are supposed to be rated at 208KW but are actualy around 225-230KW, not HP.

There are also a lot of Cosmos getting around here in NZ now.
Our's has been in NZ since new, or close enough anyway. It had only 1274km on the clock when first registered here in March 1991. I remember seeing the car I have now for sale in the Autotrader for $125000NZ back in 1991. When new in Japan they were the same price that an R34 GTR costs today.

We have had two Cosmo's now, the other we bought as an unregisterable car and kept the engine and sold the body.

there are a lot of 13B models here and a few less 20B's. I know of two that have been converted to manual as well. We may do this too as our auto is on the way out.

Also selling ours. If you payed $26000 for yours, I should sell ours for about that with its new engine and all.

Well open the bonnet and look at how many sets of plug there are.

If theres only two its 13b (two rotors) its theres 3 its a 20b (three rotors) :D

I think the 13bs and 20bs use 2 plugs per rotor, in which case its easy to figure out just by looking at the dizzy cap. 6 leads = 20b. 4 leads = 13b

oh, could you explian this? http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/t36409-2.html  :D

To bad the Cosmo isn't around in the States :( Then every one would be saying Rx who? :D :D Although if I was staying here I think I'd buy an FD, they stack up pretty well here in the US.
