I resently received my grandma's '91 lesabre and sometimes when i shift into reverse the engine dies. It starts right back up afterwards. It doesn't seem to matter if the engine is cold or hot and it dosen't happen every time i shift into reverse. I don't know if its connected to the stalling or not because i don't know how long it has been stalling, but the check engine light has been on forever, my grandma just ignored it. Anyway thanks for any help!!

Sounds more like a short...Its most likely electrical go get a diagnostic on it. USUALLY cars dont die when its the tranny(or maybe i'm wrong will someone clarify) but with my expirience they don't...

If you are interested in diagnosing that CES light, this link explains how. (It may relate to your stall problem).

The 4T60E transaxle has a number of service bullitens with repects to stalling and rough shifting over it's short life span.
However, checking out what the check engine light is about may help the problem out, especially if it's a MAP issue and reulting in an elevated idle.

I would also check out the engine and transmission mounts.
