DexCool

Just as an FYI I sent in a sample of Dexcool to a lab for analysis. This sample had over 54,000 miles on it. The results were astounding in that the coolant is in perfect condition, no solids, no oil, and what was strange is that it was a bit strong. They said keep using it as it's in perfect condition and a clear of any metals, sludge etc....even after 50K

The coolant is good for -92F and the suggested action was to remove 2.5 quarts and add distilled water.

The car is a 1999 Blazer LS 4WD 4.3L (w) motor. The system was flushed by dealer at 105,000 and recharged....now the truck has 160,200 miles on it. Recent action was a change of thermostat by me and I added (probably too strongly) a 50/50 mix back to system upon completion.

I have kept a new cap on the system and keep the puke tank 1/2 full

Just thought you guys would find this interesting.

I always thought that Dexcool was fine unless you had poor preventative maintenance issues or a defective cap. I'd be willing to bet most of the people who have problems with this are at fault from thier own doings. I had mine flushed and filled at 68000 miles in my 2000 LS and still have the stock cap on it. No problems whatsoever so far. Just as a measure though I do plan on doing a Stant cap in the near future.

Good info. Thanks.

You guys are right, there is nothing wrong with dexcool.

The problems are caused by a bad rad cap or people just being lazy and not properly maintaining their cooling system.

When it's good, it's great. When it's bad, it's really, really bad it seems. I'm sticking with it, but check it every month or so.

No, when you maintain your system like people should, it will owrk fine.

The only problems come from people that don't do the necessary work to keep their truck up to snuff maintanence wise.

You change your coolany every 3-4 years.

You keep you overflow tank up to level.

You replace your Ac Delco rad cap with something that won't fail.

This really intrest me. I have never heard of replacing the rad cap before. How can it fail exactly. What brand would you recomend for a new one??

The gasket is poorly made and won't seal properly.

I highly recommend Stant.
