b18a vs b18b

allright i know this question has been asked many times before, and all of the time the same answer has been given... better flowing intake mani, different cams and (a few times) a better flowing head.... is the head part true?

now people say the cams are different, but what's different about them? more lift? more duration? a combination of both? just wondering which ones would be more turbo friendly (eg less duration.) now if i were to just so happen to... 'come across' an intake mani from the b18b, is the throttle body the same? all i'd need is the tb gasket and the IM gasket for install, correct?

thanks

The b18b tb is slightly larger. The runner design is better (not much), and I prefered the b18b cams in the turbo setup over the b18a.

Also, there are other differences. The thermostat housing is different, there is an oil temperature switch on some of the b18a's (90-91)
Also a few little other differences.
When i swapped the b18b in my 91 LS, all the info I had been given was mostly BS. The power difference is nominal and the benefit would merely be the difference in mileage (assuming there is any.)
If you are running na, then you may notice a tad difference, boosted, the only real benefit is the **slightly larger tb and rumored better flow characteristics of the head.

Yes, all you need is the tb and IM gasket to install.

i see, thanks.. do you think it's worth the trouble of changing up all the parts if i was just going to turbocharge it anyway? i guess the slightly larger tb would be a plus, when i went from 54mm to 60mm on my zed i noticed a pretty big difference.. i'm guessing the diff on the teg is like less than 2mm... probably be more rewarding just to get an aftermarket one if i Really wanted to, but i don't..so.. yeah i'm just rambling now lol

but yeah.. thanks

You hit the nail right on th ehead. Is it worth the differenc ein power...not im my opinion. I do not have one. Spend the money on the aftermarket parts. The differences are minimal from ls to ls. Perhaps a gsr or type r would be a little better for you.
I would recomend the crv cams for the turbo. I like they way they react myself:)

cool.. yeah i'm not looking to be swapping many parts for the the car right now, just a basic turbocharger setup with minimal changes running low boost... just enough to give her a little hop in her step. i know i'll probably be tearing down the engine or buying and building another one eventually... i just can't help myself
