explian this to me. a friend said that he would kill me on the streets cause his engine is a 5.0 mustang, and mine is 2.0 dohc.dont get me wrong i totally know he will kill me but why. what is the difference, besides the more oil it can hold.

Displacement. 5 is bigger than 2. Doesn't always mean a car is faster. I don't know why how much oil it can hold has to do with anything.

I think he's misinformed as to what 5 liters and 2 liters is referring to. It doesn't refer to oil capacity, but the amount of air the engine can displace.

are you sure?

Keymaster is pretty much right.

A 2.0 Liter 4cylinder displaces half(0.5) a liter of air/fuel mixture per cyl
A 5.0 Liter V8 displaces 0.625 per cylinder

And as we all know in the combustion chamber is where compression and combustion take place when the piston moves up and down the size of the chamber changes. It has maximum volume and minimum volume the difference is called "displacement" ,the displacement is measured in CC's

a 2.0L =2,000 cc's
a 5.0L= 5,000 cc's

Generally the displacement tells you something about how much horse power and engine can produce. Roughly a 2.0L engine produces half as much horsepower as a 4.0L engine. You can make more displacement by making the combustion chambers of all the cylinders bigger .

Now yes there are alot of variables as far as how fast a particular car would be, mods, weight, tuning, etc etc....But this is just to give people a rough idea as to how displacement works and how to calculate displacement.

Hopes this helps you guys.

Very well stated...Even though he has a 5L...that still doesnt mean he will beat you...i havent lost to a stang yet....but thats beacuse of mods...stock tsi...im not sure who would win...pretty close!....Just thought id add my two cents
