The only xplode item I have used is there 6x9's. I thought they sounded pretty good. I know lots of car audio guys do not like Sony's products, to expensive and they don't sound good. Personally I would stay away from Sony (due to the bad things I have heard) and stick with a diffrent brand, MTX, Panisonic, JL Audio, Polk etc. You might also try posting this question in the car audio section and get some of there opions, some of the guys in there work at some type of car audio shop.

And even MTX has just recently started coming up, their stuff used to suck too but some the their new subwoofers have actually come out pretty good.

I agree the more recent "thuder series" has some really good subs

I've got an xplode 4 channel 600 watt amp on my 6 by 9s and 4 by 6s. It does a good job for what I'm using it for (high pass at about 90Hz).
In my opinion though, you may want to look at some other brands if you're going for bass.

I've used an Xplod deck before, but didn't really like it in the car it was in. I couldn't see the display on the face when the sun was shining down through th T-Tops, but the sound was pretty good. A friend of mine put 2 Xplod 6x9s in his Toyota pickup and they sounded good in there. For a system that only had those 2 speakers, covered the entire sound range pretty well.

I've had 2 sony explodes and hate them both. I have one right now. It skips on the slightest bump. The first one i had stopped reading discs after 1 year. I've never had any of their amps or subs. IMO, they need to stick to home audio.

um, i have a sony xplod cd player (one of the new ones) it dosnt skip at all... i really like the tuning, cuz it changes really quick and u dont have to hold it down, so u just browse stations really fast
also the cd changes quick.... which i like
i also have sony xplods 6"x9"'s in the back and 4"x6" in the dash.
my subs r mtx audio's (the new ones)
and my amp.... i dont know what brand my amp is... its just silver kinda cool tho
as for the xplod subs and amp, i wouldnt buy them, they sell them at wal-mart... dont get me wrong, wal-mart sells OK stuff, but not when it comes to that kinda stuff... at least for me!
i'd get some JL audio's or MTX's.
i also heard that the xplod amp burns out quick, and the subs dont hit that hard.

i have the explode m9900, the dvd player one thats a flat screen and its kick ass, i had the explode deck that came out before that one also and it was great also. i cant speak for their speakers but i did put some in my boys ss a month ago, he has a factory deck so they sounded normal, and i dont need aftermarket speakers because i have bose and they are nice as hell! the decks are nice i never had a problem at all.

the 6x9's and 4x6's are just loud, and the mtx's make up for the bass, so it evens out and sounds really nice, i like my system

well in my opinion which im sure is all your expectin to get from this thread sony makes good decks and decent 6*9 i have a set of the 6*9 in my car but subs and amps is a whole diff. story although they are begginin to make alot better amps surprisingly. i have three mtx 8000s 12s and an mtx 8100d amp and some other stuff im not gonna bother to type out all of it but subs is personal prefference really any top brands have their benifits and draw backs i would stick w/ rockford, infinity, mtx, jl, kicker, orions older stuff and im sure im leaving out some other good ones off the top of my head, as for the amps i love mtx but for the money the 500 or 750 watt bazooka is the best out there for less than 300 bucks i have seen and helped install many of them and they have great power handling ability and of course the price per watt cant be beat

Im actually putting together a complete Sony Xplod 8 speaker system for the IROC right now. The thing about the xplod system is that it was designed to at least be set up like a competition system even if its not of the same quality as a real competition system. If you only install the speakers without an amp or head unit, they will sound like shit. To fully take advantage of a Sony Xplod system it should be matched, with a headunit, amp, component speakers, and subwoofers. If you skimp on any of that, you may well be dissapointed because the whole system was designed to work together.

Personally, I do not like Sony at all. I feel they are leaning on thier name. I've had too many combacks so I dropped them.

I have alpine all around except my amp, thats a bazooka. i got the amp, 2 10" alpine subs in enclosures and all wiring for $25. the head unit and all 4 components were alpine when I bought the car.

If you are running big speakers even 6x9's and/or a sub get a CAPACITOR!!!!! It is like a huge battery and when you get some good tunes going it won't make your alternator work overtime and your headlights wont dim when the bass hits. It is a MUST for any sound system. It saves from alot of headaches.

Savage Messiah
03-24-2005, 11:49 AM
Not really a must, and it's not a battery. it's just a power reserve for those big hits so that you've got an auxillary source for the audio power and those huge hits won't interfere with the rest of the car. You don't NEED one as I'm not running it, my battery is on its last legs, and I'm fine lol.

if you need a stereo like that, you must not have good exhaust :)

I didn't say it WAS a batter I said its LIKE a huge battery. =) Hence hits off that.

Actually, if your amps are effecient, you shouldn't need a cap at all.
