700r4 pressure cable/ oil presssure sending unit question.

Hey everyone,
I recently had my 92 Chevy Silverado put in the shop for oil pressure problems. Most of the repairs done to my truck I've done myself, this one was taken to the shop because I didnt have time to do the repair myself. They said my fluctuating oil pressure was due to a leaky/faulty oil pressure sending unit. They replaced it and I was on my way.....soon thereafter, my rebuilt 700r4 tranny got stuck in low gear....now this thing was rebuilt ($1400) back in july, and had just over 12,000 miles on it. I had the "goose" as I affectionaltly call her, towed to the tranny shop that had rebuilt the tranny. They called today and said that because a pressure cable had been unhooked and not hooked back up, that the transmission burnt itself up, and I'm looking at another $1400 to shell out for another 700r4. They asked who replaced the sending unit, and cited that whomever that mechanic was may have unhooked the pressure cable by mistake and never put it back. When I called the shop that preformed the sending unit replacement, they said they would have had no reason to unhook the cable in order to replace the sending unit, and claim no responsibility for the dead transmission.
My question that goes out to all of you is, do you think its likely that the mechanic unhooked the pressure cable to the transmission when he removed the oil pressure sending unit? My truck is stuck in the shop out of town and I'm unable to get to the shop when they are open to have a look. I know you guys collectively have enough knowledge to make an educated guess.

It is possible that the cable was in the way and the mechanic disconnected it from the throttle body so that it could be moved out of the way.
By the way, it is not easy for the cable to come off by itself (unless it broke).
This sucks that someone would do this and then deny it. Might be time to get a lawyer and take them to court.

possible yes but if the did the tranny is not going to nuke its self that fast. Tranny shop is just trying to get out of warranty

Unhooking the TV cable on a 700R4 will cause the clutches to burn out very quickly because of low line pressure. The TV cable regulates line pressure based on throttle position. The more throttle the more line pressure.

I hope I dont have to take legal action. The transmission shop has The Goose sitting aside for me to come take a look at. I guess I'll have to find that sending unit, and ask myself if I would have unhooked that cable by mistake, or to access the sending unit. If I would have unhooked it, then Im going to assume they would have done the same and bring that to them and see how they act. Man, what a mess. Thanks for responding to my posts too!!! I'll keep you posted.

It takes longer than a week or two to burn up a 700r4 tranny with the tv cable unhooked if you driving normal.

Hey man, I just joined this forum looking for info on the oil pressure sender, and I can tell you that this morning I changed my sender on my 1992 Silverado and I did NOT have to touch the TV cable. All I did was pull the distributor and put an adjustable wrench on the sender, and pop the new one in. Hope you get this problem resolved.
