Odd Leak Or Something?

Postponing a trip to the shop, and letting the african monkeys that run searches on old posts for rotten bananas rest, I will ask this question :

After adding the Sgt. Lobo Mod to my truck earlier I'm walking around doing a general overview of the truck and low and behold there is a small drip coming from the center of the engine. I backed the truck up and inspected just about every gadget I could and finally determined that the leak/drip/strange wetness was coming from a small hose on the passengers side of the tranny. Anyone know what this open hose is for? I followed it up and it entered the cabin somewhere at the back of the engine compartment, but I'm still clueless. I'm pretty sure its just water or something from somewhere. . . but where?

Any ideas on what it is for? If its normal? Thanks!

I think what you're describing is just the air conditioner dripping condensation, which is normal. Here in Texas where it's hot and humid, mine practically pours water on the ground.

I pondered that a moment while I snacked on a apple earlier. . . considering I never run the air conditioner I thought I would post the question. I don't even use the air at all, It's always via rolled down windows. But thanks! I'll make sure I run some tests tomorrow.

Remember the AC is on automatically when you use the defrost setting. On some cars it kicks on if you set your fan to "full".

Yeah, I keep the fan off and use Wyoming air conditioning . . .the wind.

Check the fluid out. Is it clear, non-oily? Smell it, maybe even taste it if you're really curious. That should give you an idea of what it is or isn't.

Yeah, like there's anything in the X that would be harmful on the order of a trace on the fingertip, short of battery acid.

Puh-leeze. Sight and smell alone should be enough anyway, but there's no harm here.

Seriously, though, I'm curious about this open ended hose. I've seen some in the X but when I trace them the other end is either open as well or a dead end.
Have you fully traced the other end of this hose yet, simplyxterra?

Funny you should ask that guys! The first thing I did was put a rag to it and examine it for a while. Then being the pyro that I am I decided to see if it was flammable. No go. I'm pretty much convinced its water.

The hose, if your interested is towards the passenger side of the engine compartment on the right side of the tranny (if you looking towards the front of the vehicle). It wraps itself up in the compartment then disappears into the back of the compartment (I assume it heads into the cabin somewhere). The actual cut is a diagonal slice forming a 'V', so I know it was intentional.

Does the tranny have a breather tube? If it does, this is likely it.

I actually do not know. My mechanical knowledge is about as extensive as my knowledge of women. Teehee.
