I cannot get a straight answer out of anyone.. I have a 91 V6 3.1 camaro. I have a rebuilt, honed, tanked and all that good stuff 85 or 86 V8. I am planning to buying everything new for the engine (wiring harness, headers, lifters, all the good stuff and carb). Will this 1985-1986 V8 bolt up to my 1991 camaro (tranny and whatever else) whithout haveing to buy a new tranny and stuff loads of other parts. What will I need. PLEASE i am begging you guys to give me an answer :banghead:

Carb isn't the only way to go for big HP, EFI can and will make just as much as a carb...and be more efficent doing it.
That trans wouldn't survive behind a "big HP" engine anyway. you are going to want a "Raptor" or equalivant trans for a really powerful engine..by really powerful we're talking 450+ hp and 500+ ft/lbs tq.

what tranny are you running? If its a manual its probly the T5 and its gonna die behind a high power V8. If you have the 700R4, it can be built to handle high hp. Mine was rated by my transmission guy as being able to handle 600hp, but only 500hp on a regular basis. As far as bolt patterns from the tranny bellhousing, thats a good question. To be honest i dont really know the 3.1 all that well.
I will agree with Morley on the issue of carb vs EFI. Both are equially able to make power, the EFI just does it with less fuel and lower emissions.
Regarding the swap its self, your best bet is to find a junkyard third gen that originally came with a V8 and scavange the piss out of it. A short list of parts to get would be... Fuel lines, radiator, hoses, engine mounts, ECM, Wiring harness, Intake ducting, etc. etc. im sure im missing about a bazillion little parts that youll need. but you get the idea.

Hey i have a 91 RS, and i put a late 80s 350 into it. You have to buy a different tranny, and different exhaust manifolds. also it requires some crazy wiring.

I would just do a carb. You'll have plenty of other complications to deal with than a whole list of sensors and a huge wiring harness. Besides if you would really build up a small block the TPI plenum would be very restrictive, Especially since they are tuned for a stock 305. Since as most of you know the 305 and 350 TPI intakes were identical, since they planned on dropping the 350 in 1990 and then changed their minds and rushed it back into production, never designing a TPI for a 350. I think you'd be happier with a carb.

not if you have emmissions testing and want to stay street legal.
