Hey people
I am new to this forum but i really hope that someone can help.
I have just rescued a lovely mk2 8v from under a pile of cardboard boxes and it was running really well apart from bad idle when any electrics were switched on, but thats another problem!
For some reason it will not start, there is a good spark, good fule feed, good pressure, good starter motor battery etc, everything that you would expect to work, works!..its just not starting!...when the spark plugs are removed they are soaked in fuel and it does seem to be flooded, i have been told that it could be whats known as "bore flush" this can happen when the car is started but only run for 30 seconds or so leading to too much fuel being pumped into the engine and casusing massive flooding, i am told that the only way to fix this is to tow the car in gear therefore clearing it of excess fuel.
Does anyone know of this or perhaps have any views on what the prob could be? Could it be due to the car not being run for some time?
cheers,
Billy.

I'm unsure of which fuel system your car has. Is it injection or carbureted (I'm in North America)? If injected is it a CIS-E mechanical njection or AFC electronic injection?

Hey Boschmann,
Thanks for your interest on this problem i have.
My car is a mk2 golf gti 8 valve digi, electronic fuel injection system.
I had it running today! and once it starts it sounds lovely, but on some occasions it takes sometime to start, turning over well and trying but no start, then on other occasions it starts straight away no problem.
I have noticed that when it wont start there is very strong smell of fuel, as a total guess i would say that it seems to be over injecting, but i am no expert so this is just a guess!
Everything seems to be good, spark, starter motor all the normal things are present and correct, but it just does not want to start.
Could i need a new ecu ? perhaps this is telling the injectors to over inject????
I just want to drive the little beauty!

I'd first check the coolant temp sensor, it's located on the flange where the upper radiator hose joins the cylinder head. Resistance across the sensor's two pins should be 2000-3000 Ohms cold & 200-300 Ohms at operating temp.

The good news is that ive managed to fix the little beauty!
I got hold of a replacement ecu super cheap from the well known auction site, plugged it in and away she goes, starts perfect on the key everytime now!
I really appreciate all your help and advice, thanks for taking the time to reply to my posts, you are a gentleman.
Thanks again
