Hey, I want to replace the shift knob in my Alero but I don't want to break anything removing it and replacing it. Any pointers? How do I go about removing the stock one?

If its an Auto, you just put the shift in 1st, then take a flat head and remove the staple on the back of the shifter. Then the shifter should just pull right off.

Awesome, I don't remember there being a staple, but then again I don't remember paying that close attention to it. I'll check it out when I get off work. Thanks

Yeah there is a small slit on the back on the shifter. You have to pry the staple out and the shifter should pull right off with a bit of effort.
