intake and MPG

some one told me cold air intake use more fule but add more power, and ram air better MPG, is that true? has anyone change the intake on their? i have a automatic, so if i change the intake, would that hurt the engine or the computer? i need to find a way to improve the MPG, since the gas price been going up every day, any ideas??

Keep inmind you drive a heavy SUV that has the aerodynamics of a brick. There are no bolt-on increase my MPG out there. If there was, auto-manufactures would already have it on the car.

I have seen a few people get better MPG during Highway driving with a K&N drop in filter (not the cone).

Math problem

If you drive 12000 miles per year and get on average 18 MPG and you pay 1.75 last year and 2.25 this year how much more are you paying per year for gas?

- That is 333 bucks extra per year (less then one dollar a day).

Keep all extra weight out of the vehicle.
Keep the pressure up in your tires.
Keep very clean breathers, i.e. air filter, PCV valve & fuel filter.
Run a bottle of HEET in your gas tank on occasion, in the winter.
Use good quality gas = no 7-11 stuff.

Obviously spark plugs are a consideration as well, the better tuned up your vehicle is, the better MPG you'll get.

With consistently good maintenance, I can still average 18-20 MPG city, and 20-24 MPG on the open highway - conservatively driving at no more then 65mph.

My truck weighed 5000# before I put on extra equipment and bigger tires, don't know what I weigh now, but I really have only lost 2mpg and I notice that more on the highway.
