K, you don't seem to offer much detail.
U charged the battery, was it an older battery? How did it discharge in the first place? After charging the battery did it start the engine? After turning engine off, did the batt. fail to start the engine?
Is the comment about having car on jacks meaningful? This doesn't seem relevant to a battery problem, unless you were doing some starter repair.

I'm not sure if the battery is an old one but I think so. I just bought the car in August off a private dealer so I couldn't tell. And it discharged by simply being parked there for so long, because I broke my engine mount and left the car parked till I had it repaired. When I used jumper cables (jacks) to start it the car was running for a very short time like 10 mins. and then die out and not restart.

Sounds like your battery is bad(probably from the cold/sitting) And your alternator is either not strong enough to run the car, or is also bad. Your alternator could have gone bad from running your car with a bad battery. This overworks the alternator. I would start with a new battery, then have the charging system checked.
You can tell the age of the battery by looking at the date code on the side(generally). A3 would be Jan/2003 etc.

The charging system is the electrical components that run your vehicle after it starts. Mainly the Alternator is what goes bad. Inside the alternator is a voltage regulator that insure the alternator never overcharges your battery.
You can have this checked at most autoparts stores(Autozone, Check/Shucks/Kragen. Advance, O'riellys, Pep Boys, etc.)

Get a new alternator you mean ?
Is Canadian Tire cheaper to just buy one ?

If the alternator is bad, then buy a new one. Start with the battery, then the alternator.
If you can do it yourself, you will save money. It isn't very easy to do however, so I would suggest having it done.

Ok thanks for the input :)
By the way my friend is having trouble starting his Pontiac 6000 1986. Can anybody help him ?
it turns but doesn't start.
Plus my vechile is having new problems, it revs right up to 100 or 80 and when I put it in gear I stall out and need a boost using jumpers from a GP 05 V6 3.8
