bose screams

My 96 Aurora with a bose system makes a God-awful scream thru the front left channel when the radio is on. It sounds like a siren. I believe that the theft-lock shuts the radio off, at least according to the manual (or is the bose theftlock different?) I have disconnected those speakers for now, but it just ain't the same. The problem started suddenly without battery failure or anything. HELP!

Yeah, it's more than a hum...I nearly had to change my shorts. It started immediately after washing the car; I'm thinking something got wet, but I dunno...

I've heard of bad amplifiers causing this kind of noise. Each speaker has its own output amplifier, so the other speakers wouldn't be affected if the output stage on the one speaker was bad.

I kind of doubt that the water could have done it, unless you've got water that is getting into the radio somehow. The only thing that you can do is pull the radio and see if something smells roached. You should also look for signs of water on the case of the radio, just in case.

In case anyone else has this problem, the bug was in the amp. When I tapped on the amp (next to the sub-woofer) the noise stopped. Upon further investigation, if I pushed in on the amp above the circuit board for the front left channel, the noise returned. I merely pryed the board away from the case a little, and the problem has vanished. Apparently, asomething was making contact with the metal case.
