My next door neighbor had me work on her mom's 94 Dodge Shadow ES. One night on the highway it began smoking from the tailpipe and it was obvious that it was burning coolant. A few minutes later (yikes!!) the car was pulled over and towed. well, i got the privilege of working on it and i got the front head off. coolant poured from the exhaust manifold and coolant was also in third cylinder. anyway, i pulled spark plugs from rear head and they too had coolant on them. this tells me coolant is in both sides with no visual cracks in block or whatnot. front head and gasket were fine. is it safe to say engine is finished?

first send the heads off to be machined, chances are there is a hairline crack that the naked eye can't spot. It's very rare for a cylinder wall to crack and allow coolant to drain.
