Another Check Engine light thread

Just had my every-other-year emissions inspection on my '98 Explorer. Two days after I got it back from the shop that did the inspection, my check engine light comes on and stays on.
The manual says the light will come on when the car's emission control system needs to be serviced, and I see multiple threads here about the check engine light. But is there anything in the Virginia emissions inspection that could cause this light to come on? How likely is it that the shop that did the inspection somehow caused whatever problem is making the light come on?

hmmmsounds like the stero typical mechanics shop....sometimes they will mess with things that will not affect your car for a day or so then youd bring it back to them to fix at your expense with little or no work done.....if you know anything about the emmisions...try checking your connections on your O2 sensors....its just funny how that happens so sudden...if they are fine pull your codes and replace the bad one....good luck

Do not replace any componet until it is determined that it is bad. Jammer, can you explain to me a case where a shop has intenionally done this?? I have worked in the field for well over 30 years, and I can't get things to fail when I want them to. :banghead: :banghead:
