HELP!1990 AWD 1/2shafts!!

Hi,
This weekend I started to work on my brother-in-laws 1990 Safari AWD. Both half shafts need to be replaced. I unbolted the inside CV plates and now am unsure where to go. The bearing plates and esp the bolts are rusted, I started to unbolt the upper control arm but ran out of daylight and heat. Am I going in the right direction? Also, the wire from the anti-lock brakes is severed. Can I splice this?
