Drive Shaft for 99 JGCL

The front drive shaft for my 99 Grand Cherokee has died and I need to replace it (CV joint and boot blew). From what I understand I have a strange shaft. It has the Rezeppa fittings on both ends. I've been trying to figure out where to find a replacement other than at Jeep. Any recommendations? Would it harm my GC if I just removed that drive shaft and went without the AWD capabilities? I tend to do 99% of my driving on highways. My GC has 176k miles on it now.
