97 Jetta GLS, 97K miles, automatic.
I recently had (at a VW dealership) the transmission fluid filled and a diagnostics test run which came up negative. But the car still shifts really hard? Any reasons why? Anything I can do about this?

Older transmissions had LOTS of problems.
There was a recall for harsh shifting trans 94-97 I believe where a resistor wire is installed to prevent harsh or irradic shifting.
Other than that looks like its time  for a new transmission.
