The RWD Zeta platform which much speculation had been attached to the return of the Camaro has been cancelled by GM for all N. american markets.

Yea sorry guys.... I dunno what GM or Lutz is thinking.... especially to help speed up the SUV/Truck releases?!?!?!

Did GM not notice thet 30% drop of SUV/Truck sales in N. America over the last 6 months which with gas prices looking to be even more in the horizon dropping sales even more?!?!?

Also what about the GTO.... the only semi-cool car GM makes besides the Vette was going to be switched to the Zeta platform with a whole new design. What now for that car?

I hear ya man Ford at least after dropping the Lighting has come out with a new Sport-Trac truck that has the 4.6 S/C Cobra motor, 6-speed auto, and AWD!

That is just to tide us over until after the new Cobra comes out and they then have the time they need to do a New Lighting.

That's funny cause when i was talking to the local GM rep he was under the impression that the new RWD platform was coming out in 06/07... And Lutz himself said that the GTO would be completely it's own car by 06, i wouldn't give up on GM just yet people.

the end justifies the means. article said new rear-wheel drive vehicles would be delayed by only a year, in reality maybe two or three. that puts us round 2010 (formula). anyways, GM is just doing what they think they need to do to compete with other manufacturers. ill sacrifice a new maro for the well being of all things general motors. plus, i heard that the SS concept was the underlaying of the new camaro (dont know if its true, but if you guys have seen the SS in person you would not be sad at it being cancelled). i have faith in lutz, he's got something up his sleeve...

This is some of what I've gathered.
Zeta chassis has been canceled due to several reaons.
One big reason is that why have Zeta, spend the money and all that for a inferior chassis, when Sigma is already paid for?

the cars on Zeta are canceled for now...Lutz even leaked it...but here is what he said in his blog.

By Bob Lutz
GM Vice Chairman

Some news broke today about a reshuffling of our product plan, and I just want to clear one thing up before people get carried away.

Yes, we have canceled our plans to build rear-wheel-drive vehicles off the Zeta architecture. But that does not mean we've canceled plans to build rear-drive vehicles altogether.

We did not cancel the Zeta plans to save money, or to divert funds elsewhere that would've been used for product development.

We are simply reallocating resources (human and financial) to pull some other programs ahead and get other vehicles to market sooner. The press speculates this means we're doing it to get our next-generation large SUVs and pickups out sooner. You could see how one might reasonably come to such a conclusion.

Rest assured, we remain committed to developing RWD, premium,
high-performance, affordable vehicles, perhaps even a few with a trace of nostalgia baked in.

This is basically from GM Insider

Anyway, I seem to remember posting something about "don't beleive it untill you see it." :uhoh:
