If you have a Dana 44 front axle, you'll need to get an axle puller and pull out your axles then you'll have access to the insides of the axle so you can replace wheel bearings, seals and all that other good stuff. If you're going to open up your axle for any kind of work, while you're at it, go on and replace your bearings.

thanks for the help so far. Can I pull the front end housing cover off and unhook the axels there, or do they pull out from the side. I looked at it today and I think I have to pop the ball joints to get this thing out. Do those half shafts have any movement once I get the Wheel bearing off, or does the whole thing come apart? thanks again freaknasty, can't wait to tear into this one. What does the puller look like?

ok, from what you're describing, you'll need to remove the front wheel hub nuts to remove the half shafts. I hope you have an impact gun b/c those center nuts are on there REALLY tight. Taking those axle shafts out are like taking out half shafts on front wheel drive cars, ball joints have to be seperated. I believe once you have the shafts out, I'm not 100% certain, but I believe you can get to the seals from the outside of the differential w/o taking off the front cover, I'll check to make sure.
