Success Story, finding an engine vibration in 5th Gen

If anybody is wondering, and somebody prob is, there is a way to solve most engine vibration problems in the 5th gen 2.2 motor. I put up with a vibration that got bad at 2000 and 3000. It ate one cat, and was vibrating the new one pretty bad too. Simple solution was, the idiots who changed the timing belt (before I was a diy). They didn't align the REAR BALANCE SHAFTS PROPERLY. If anyone is wondering, I can post the procedure to properly align the shaft. This is the only way to do it.
I LOVE MY CAR AGAIN.

It is in the manual I think,. I have heard of this problem before and cannot understand why people don't follow the instructions. It also applys to 4th generation Hondas and maybe others. But for all concerned, please post important information.

It is in the manual and the automatics both!!! They are the same engines, just diff transmissions. And yes the procedure is simple but not payed attention too probably because it is not as simple as lining up a dimple with a dot on the block!
I didnt know the 4th gens had this. Never worked on one. I did have a 3rd gen and I know it did not have it. No secondary belt or balance shafts that I was aware of.

I think the lining up the /pointer on the block with the grove on the front timing balancer belt driven pulley is the problem which if not done properly causes the vibration. Is that what you were referring to. 3rd gen only uses 1 belt, 4th gen uses 2 belts. When I said manual,, I was referring to the Chiltons/Haynes manual.

My mistake. I don't know if it is in the Chiltons/Haynes manual. I have the Helms factory manual. You are correct the front shaft has a pointer on it to line up with the block. The rear one is tricky. There is a maintenance hole on the back of the block that has to opened. A 6x100 or 80mm bolt is inserted and the shaft is turned until the bolt slides about all the way in. Then you put the balancer bolt on. It has to be done this way because the rear shaft cog is on a different turning ratio than the actual shaft. So it is not possible to line up the shaft properly by using the cog for the belt. Trust me, the correct way is to use the maintenance hole! If the 4th gen has two belts then this is prob true for that set of motors as well. I know it is true for the 5th gen 2.2s.
