Beat by a SRT/4, It was so close though

I was on the way back from the range last night when this red Dodge Neon SRT/4 with a huge wing and fart cans blow by me like I was standing still. So I hammer the accelerator and catch up with him at the next light. The car has a huge tach on the dash and all the guages on the piller so I figure this is going to be a good race. I am on his passenger side and I look over at him and he looks over at me and smiles, we both know what will happen next. The light changes and I shift into first and beat him off the line with little problem, I shift to second and I notice he is pulling on me by the time, I hit third we are door to door and he pulls on me by about a half a car length. I hit fourth, but was still a half a car behind and could not surpass him. So he has me beat. I shut it down and slow to the next light. We had transversed about a half a mile or so before I acknowledge my defeat and slow it down. I pull up next to him at the next light and I start to roll down my window to congratulet him on a good race and for beating me fairly. When he rolls his down and yells over to me "That's right you just got beat by a four cylinder homee" I was like WTF!! What an ass this guy is so I just roll my window back up and ignore him. The light changes and he tears away from the light like he wanted to race again. I just let him go and not waste my gas. :nono:

Anyway it was a fair race and I was beat by a faster car and maybe a better driver as well... Just don't be an ass about it you know. I mean when I beat someone I don't make any negative remarks about how I slaughtered you in the race.. I just don't get ricers...

i got beat by a integra once and the guy was a real ass, and real cocky. i've never been like that.

Well It did have two exhaust pipes sticking out from under the rear bumber and it sounded like every other fart can exhaust... With a unmistakable sound of the Turbo...

How fast are these cars anyway... Seems like they are quite respectable on the street and I would guess the track as well...

The factory exhaust on the Srt-4 is loud. They don't have mufflers just 2 resinators. The Factory exhaust is also duel exhaust. I know pretty ricey huh. Out of the box the Srt-4's are fast. if it was an 03 stock it has 215 hp and 240 lb/tq. (04/05 is 15 more hp and 10 more lb/tq along with LSD). Bone stock the srt-4 will run low 14s all day long at the track. If your god of launching a FWD car you'll run high 13s. Mopar has a bunch of power adders for the Srt-4, stage 1 240hp, stage 2 260hp, stage 3 350 hp. Quite respectable times. But, alot of the people that have Srt-4's think they are the fastest cars on the planet. (including me sometimes until i get beat :( ) (had a nice run in with a viper but i will tell you about his buslengths later.)

I have raced a modded srt before. not quite sure which stage but I know it was modified.

He pulled pretty good off the bat but I caught back up in 4th and was reelin him in but had to shut it down it was getting too fast for a non highway race.

What mods do the stage's consist of?

I know a guy that ran 13.7 at 101 MPH at Bandimere. 5800 feet up. He was running 17.5 PSI at the time. Stock turbo. Couple mods, wastegate, turbo timer, and two other mods.

They can be made quick. Although, this guy was running terribly lean. Like so lean I would not have been racing it. He made it so far. Not sure what he did this winter though, although I have heard he is running 20 PSI now. I am going to need my stroker to keep up with him.

I think if we ran right now, it would be VERY close. I should trap around 105-106 I would think, and he should be close to that as well.

I thought that they first came out with 225 horsepower originally??? Anyways, bone stock the 04/05's will run a high 13 sec. pass. They are definitely traction limited. They trap at over 101 mph, so the power is there. A guy on LS1.com, 1Sweet00SS, makes sure to enlighten LS1 owners of the car's street cred. He runs high 12's, and his car is only a stage 2. I hope Dodge doesn't pull something stupid, like GM, and get rid of the SRT-4 for something as pathetic as the SSR.

Don't know why that is funny.. The engine has not been touched in anyway, I still have the filter box in place , sans air silencer of course... As for the exhaust and gears I guess you could say I am not bone stock. Maybe I should say stock except for gears and exhaust.

When I say bone stock I am referring to the engine. All engine components on the car, are as they came from Ford in 1993, original intake, heads, MAF, Throttle Body, rockers, cam, etc... :dunno:

when you buy an SRT-4 you get a free cocky attitude with it. i've ran head to head with a stage 2 SRT-4 around here..and after the race he yelled out his window 'you're slow' and took off down the turning lane and almost hit a car pulling out. haha. dumb fuck. those cars are fast as shit if you can launch FWD.

I mean not to a extreme (like change the air filter to a K&N and its still stock to me) but gears is a major modification that can give you 5 tenths or more in some cases off your ET's and the exhaust techinically is a engine mod(and exhaust can be headers, catback or just a muffler). To me your car is no longer stock.

just say a "lightly modded" 1993 mustang GT...exhaust and gears would be light mods, so it makes sense...now if you had a 347 stroker kit on it with a blower and 4.10 gears, you would be "heavily modded"....and somewhere in between those two, you would be "moderately modded"(whoa that sounds weird lol).

Nice run 93_GT. Sounds like the two cars were nearly dead even in performance, and that always makes for good races.

About the modifications, I wouldn't call gears just a "light mod" for reasons already stated.

the problem with the SRT-4 is that is soooo atainable. you could be a punk ass kid working at taco-bell but if you have 4k down, worked at taco-bell for at least two years and have had a credit card for two years and made all your payments on time then you could own one.

most people driving SRTs are driving an amazingly well built car with awsome power and a well-backed company like Mopar to make all the goddies to make you even faster.... problem is your still a punk ass child with no respect, no experience and no sense of what street sportsmanship is like. its like having sex with a hot cheerleader for the first time, you think your a bad ass all of a sudden.

I know, i know, Some times i feel like i am the lone defender of all those who aren't prix that drive Srt-4s.

The other day i met a few Srt-4 ownerz from Srtforums that are in AZ. Real cool people, all in thier l8 20s didn't fit the Srt-4 Sterio Type at all lol. I was the youngest one there at 18.

Also i put my Mopar BOV on yesterday. Man does that thing turn heads. :evillol:

Lol, the only SRT-4 owner I've actually talked to was my friend's mom, who is in her late 30's...doesn't exactly fit the demographic.

ive known a couple kids that were little pricks that had neons... one wasnt an SRT tho lol he had a body kit and a fart can and a park bench... it was sad.

Someone around here has a srt-4. He brags and brags about how fast it is...My friend had a WRX when he had his srt-4....Both stock, the wrx won till like, 50 then the srt-4 blew by...He says '' I killed a STI!'' (It was a stock 03 wrx...) No offence to the owners, but some of the srt-4 owners think there car is hot shit...

From the factory the SRT-4 has no muffler. It's a 2" setup. About a foot after the catalytic converter there's a decent size resonator though. Without that resonator Dodge couldn't have made it quiet enough (95 Dba) to be street legal for California and a few other states.

Regardless of the year, a stock '03 - '05 SRT-4 should put down between 212-238whp and 221-264wtq. Those are the highest and lowest numbers I've ever seen. Most guys put down around 230whp and 245wtq.

With a decent driver, well prepped 1/4 mile track at sea level, street tires, and 91 octane you can expect the following times...

stock: 13.7 - 14.7 @ 99-102 mph
stage 1: 13.5 - 14.2 @ 100-103 mph
stage 2: 12.8 - 13.6 @ 103-107 mph

I haven't seen any stage 3 times yet. Hopefully when the weather warms up we'll get to see how quickly 355whp/365wtq can propel a little 2900lb rocket down the 1320.

BTW...most of the local SRT-4 guys I know are 25 or older, but we have some as old as 65 and some as young as 17. The vocal minority seems to have created a stereotype for the rest of us unfortunately.

one tho is that his 4 cylinder is top of the line shit... that v8 in his 93 stang isnt... its just an average v8, not high tech at all. but still... turbo that baby and it would be disgusting. oh well some people are just ignorant.
