This wasn't supposed to happen to me...

When I bought the car the rotors were warped and the pads were squealing. I didn't expect them to go out this soon though....

I was on my way to school today, when a car began to stop in front of me. I put the brakes on, and they worked fine until about 15-20 mph, then stopped and the car kept rolling. I pulled up the e-brake, but it kept rolling, I pushed in the clutch to throw it into 1st and drop it but it was too late, I rear-ended the Ranger in front of me.

I just bought the car 3 weeks ago, on a Saturday. The guy went out of town that Monday, and didn't get back until Friday night, so I was unable to register the car to insure it. I was lucky enough that the Ranger didn't recieve any damage, but my front bumper has black scratch marks all over it (the car is lowered, so my bumper went a little under the Ranger's bumper), the left headlight is completely busted, the hood is bent up, and I was unable to get the hood up or off, but it looks like my radiator + fans were pushed back into my motor or something, so I'm hoping it's not severely fucked up. I drove it home (2-3 miles) and didn't hear anything unusual, so I'm hoping it's not fucked up too bad.

Either way, I've got $1500+ in repairs to make, no insurance to pay for it, and only about $250. There goes any chance of selling the bitch anytime soon.

In other words, I'm fucked. It figures that this shit would happen on the day I get my rims and tires in.

I'll have pictures up by Wednesday if I can find the digital camera.

Wow talk about bad luck, sorry to hear man, I've been putting my brakes off for quite awhile now even though they are squeeling, looks like I better stick my new pads and rotors on.

Man, that is not cool at all. Brakes are not a thing to screw with, that is for sure. If there is an issue they should just be fixed. It is totally different than a lot of things. But really, that accident could have been a lot worse if youe brake gave out at some higher speed or if some kid ran accross the road or something.

I hope everything works out for you man.

Yeah it could've been much worse.

I'm going to see if I can't take a loan out of the bank for about $2000ish to get a new bumper, get it painted, headlights (97-99) conversion, a high-performance radiator, better radiator fans, a carbon fiber hood, drilled/slotted rotors, good brake pads, and whatever else is wrong with it. I can't get the hood open to see.

not to make you feel worse or anything, but you knew you had problems with your brakes, and yet you bought new rims and tires before you fixed your brakes?? :disappoin

Yeah that is a good point...

You may want to consider just fixing it for as minimal as possible and then sell it quick since you want a Turbo anyway...

I remembered you said you were thinking about taking out a loan to fix the car, but maybe you edited it out or something(or maybe I'm going crazy) but since you are in school and don't make a lot of money, I wouldn't recommand you taking out loans already, you'll have no way to pay back the loan, and you don't want to get in debt early, its just not a good idea if you want to buy big things later in your life(like new cars, house). So sell the rims and tires, use that money towards fixing the car cheap, then see what you can do.

Man, I sound so much like a grown up...

Yeah I've known about the warped rotors and squealing pads, but I took the (now stupid) advice from my step-father that they were fine, and just needed to be rotated. (Which I thought was BS in the first place, apparently I was right) This was the reason I bought the new rims and tires.

Right now, from what I can see under the crumped hood, the car is going to need at least $2500 in repairs, if not more.

And by taking a loan out of the bank, I meant having my parents do it, and I pay them back with my job money. I work and attend school daily, so it's extremely urgent that I get a ride soon.

I will probably be selling the car off as a parts car eventually, if anyone is interested.
