If you want a great running 240 that handles well and is the lesser nightmare of the two....go SR20DET. The RB isn't worth the hassle (unless...you go RB25DET or bigger).
BTW I wonder if this question has ever been asked before.
Also BTW it is which....not wich.

yeah unless you go with the rb25 or 26, the sr20 is by all means a better choice, but the modification required on the rb25 is much less then that required on the 26, just a little info if you wanna go that route.

ya rb26 would be the only rb id go with, sr20's are badass and are made for the car so you can't go wrong, plus it will save your wallet a hassle.

read the faqs... then depending on what kind of car you want... choose. Personally, a lighter engine with more torque is desireable. The sr is getting played out now... but nothing's wrong with it. The rb25 is cheaper and will fit better than the 26... with the 26 you are going to need a 25 tranny anyway so it'll be more work. Plus, the 25 is more common in japan since it came in many cars like the gt-s.... so it'll be cheaper than the rb26.
i don't know why i even typed that... it's not even helpful... you could've got that in the faqs.... ah fuk it.

Yeah...the engine that isn't even available/legal in the US is played out....
The rb25 is cheaper and will fit better than the 26....
Physically the RB 26 is the same size as the RB20. The block is virtually the same.

And even if it was, its still a better engine for a well built 240sx. rb20,25, both suck my nuts and as for a rb26dett well save that for a fast show car.

Helloooo! The RB20, RB25, and the RB26 ALL use the same block. Thus they all take up basically the same space....weight is basically the same.
Personally, a lighter engine with more torque is desireable. The sr is getting played out now.... but nothing's wrong with it.This STILL doesn't make sense to me. The lighter engine? Then you post THIS? The RB engines are flat out HUGE!!!

Not enough cheaper. Why mess around? If you go big...go REALLY BIG with the RB26.

BINGO!! You win the prize!! The RB20 is WAY over rated. The SR has the same displacement at a fraction of the weight. The 240/180 was made with it in mind.
I have seen many RB20s REMOVED and SRs swapped in. Why would one do the reverse?

come to nyc and go to a 240 meet, and almost every 240 has a SR in it. its only recently that people are starting to realize the potential of a proper KA-T setup. now the people who are KA-T and people who are building a KA-T project is becoming more = in numbers of the guys here that already have a SR swap.
me with SRenvy? no thanks. i passed that idea over 2 years ago when i boosted my stock and still stock block KA. the KA is fine for me and its doing its job just fine. when i get all my parts sorted out i'll be making close to 300whp on my still stock block KA. the SR is a great engine, i'm not denying about that. but i mean if your KA has low miles on it, then you can save a shit load of money by just turboing what you have. if i didn't buy my 240 with only 46K miles on it i might not have turboed it. but i still turboed the block when it had 75K on the odo, and i have 115K now.

Yeah, too many people have the SR I think I'll go around riding an Inferior engines nuts just to be special :gay: The only thing the KA has on the SR is cost (for us mericans anyway) and Displacement... and as much as I love 100mm+ Strokes and Spindley Rods I Couldnt bring myself to pass up the SR.
Its not that the KA isnt capable of the same power as the best tuned SR its just that lately everyone has been Ignoring its weaknesses just to "avoid" the bandwagon **cough Chuki_breath Cough** which I think is as bad if not worse than buying an SR because the JDM mags told you to. but I suppose it is past time the KA got its due...
Perhaps I was harsh with my old Heirachy soo...

What the hell atre you talking about?? They are basically the same. You need to swap an oil pan and install a different intercooler piping...but BASICALLY the install is as big of a nightmare either way. Neither is a really reasonable option in a 240 unless you really know what you are doing. It ain easy either way. An RB20 is a TOTAL waste of time.

the reason why he blew 3 engines was because he was a pioneer, and during his time, there wasn't alot of things out for it yet. those 3 engines that he blew were all lessons on how not to build the engine. now that he has it done correctly, i doubt his engine is goin to blow anytime soon.

But RW clearly thinks its because i dont want to follow the latest craze....so iv been on the ka wagon since it has been released(may 2002) to the public i guess, its just now that i finally have funds to actually do it. What ever floats his boat though, im aiming to have a running ka-t by summers end. so whatever.....
and they also have a complete how to on the sr engine in the same issue...but yea im not getting an sr so im not a follower clearly.. :screwy:

Build whatever engine you want to because you want to. Who gives a fuck if its bandwagon or not. If you want a civic hatchback with a B16a because you like them, then get it. Don't buy something to be different. You won't like it and you'll be kicking yourself in the ass.

All in all there is only so many engines to choose from....soon they all will be a bandwagon or should we say just a common thing to do. IMO, the SR is just as pointless as the RB series if you live in a state where they do visual checks, and you'd like to drive your car legally (paying the clerk a bribe doesnt count as legel lol). I would definatly do the SR swap because its so hard to find a nice, manual, low mileage 240sx around here. But the damn emissions are so strict with all these "save the trees hippies".
