Hi everyone. Newbie here, and have a question about my 1997 Blazer 4WD. Just tonight, SES light came on. Took to Advance and was given a printout of code. It was p1870.....
This is the only code given, and I have done a lot of research on here tonight. Obviously there are some who feel this is related to faulty ignition switch with the solution being to replace it; while other postings I have read on here relate it to fauly valve body and suggested to get an aftermarket valve kit. And yet more postings say TCC solenoid.
I guess my question is (please allow me my blonde moment), not being a mechanic, which one is more feasible to start checking first?
I really love this truck, and any advice you all could give is greatly appreciated.
thanks,
Jennifer

I would go with the ignition switch first seeing it is the 1997.
We often see transmission problems caused by the switch which will cause problems with the TCC soleboid which will lead to the code.
Also, if you have not done it yet, you need to have the transmission professionally flushed and filled and a new transmission filter installed.

You are dead on right! :smokin:
If you see service bulletin no. 01-07-30-002c (Do a google search on this number) you will see that it talks about transmission issues etc. and the culprit is the ignition switch.
Replace the Ignition Switch like Blazer LT says!
