Cluster Lights

For me to change my dash lights do I have to take out the whole cluster. I have a 1995 Golf GL. Also, is there a fuse that would take care of the blown lights. I really don't want to take out my whole cluster to find out that it is a fuse or two. Thank you.

Which lights specifically are out?

All of the ones that help to illuminate the speedometer and the odometer...basically all of the gauges.

If the panel lights for other controls like radio & fan are okay then your cluster bulbs are burnt & you need to remove the cluster to replace them.

And if they aren't? (By you saying the panel lights you mean the heater ones right?) I know my radio is wired in to the light switch...yes I must replace that soon...but would that be a cause of all of those lights going out?

Ok. I just fixed the radio and now it is hooked up right but still no lights in the dash. The heater and panel fans aren't working either. The only lights that do work is the odometer and the clock...also the lights left of the cluster...such as the light switch itself and the dimmer. Please help.

Some of the bulbs are burned out.

I checked the bubls and they were fine. Is there a possibility that my light switch went bad? Ya know the one that lets me turn on my lights...I really don't have daytime running lights...it's more like always running all lights...that includes tail lights and side markers when the switch is off...and if that is it any clue as to where I could order one?

If the switch were bad I would expect all the other control panel lights to be out also.

Well the only lights I get are odometer (sorry I said tach earlier) clock and the push button lights on the control panel (the back lighting for those buttons).
