S2000 Suspension too harsh. Any help available?

I would like to buy an S2000 but I'm too old for the hard ride. (Don't laugh) New softer springs and shocks would do the job. Are there any of these available from an aftermarket company? How about substituting from another Honda model?

To soften the suspension is to ruin the car's excellent handling qualities. I'm close to 67 and I love the ride of my S2000.

I'd try some shocks from a company like Tokico. They offer a 5-way adjustable called the Illumina. Set them to your liking.

I would think that springs would be the first thing to do. Who makes replacement springs for the 2000?

Well, a lot of companies make aftermarket springs for the S2000. Except for NONE of them make springs that make for a softer ride. All the springs you will find are lowering springs, so the ride will be even more harsh than it is now.

Can you give me some of the names? If they have done the basic engineering for the springs then they could easily do it for softer rates. I wouldn't mind paying for a custom set.

Might I suggest if you find the ride of the S2000 too firm, you opt for something with a less harsh ride such as a Z4 or a Miata?

To soften the ride of an S2000 is not only doing a disservice to the car, but to the next owner, should you ever decide to trade it for something else.

Should you still insist on installing softer springs, who are you going to blame the first time you try negotiating a tight corner and go skittering across the road into a ditch because the suspension can't hold the wheels on the road?

You haven't said what your age is. As I stated, I'm getting close to 67 (June) and I love the ride of my S2000. I'd most certainly trade the car before I'd attempt to alter its handling characteristics.

I'm 64 and I don't push my cars to the limit on public roads. I used to autocross and do POC days at the racetrack but I leave that to my son now. I just like a nice comfortable car that has a shifter, is reliable to the nth degree(I've owned two Hondas before and never had to put a nickle in them), and lets the top come down.

I'm sure H&R or Eibach would be willing to make springs with custom rates for you. Also try Tein, Comptech, Tanabe and Sprint. And after that, if you're looking into adjustable shocks/struts, try Tokico, Koni and KYB.
