FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) - Three teenagers kidnapped a 15-year-old and ordered his father to drop off a $50 ransom at a Taco Bell restaurant, authorities said. The father called police instead, and the teens were arrested.
Police said the dispute began over $50 that David Gibbs, 15, owed to Joseph Garrett, 17. Gibbs went to Garrett's apartment Tuesday, and Garrett asked him to repay the money, police said. Gibbs couldn't pay up, so Garrett and two other teens punched him in the face and held him at knifepoint, then forced him to phone his father and ask him to drop the money in a planter at the Taco Bell, police said.
Ralph Gibbs called police, who set up undercover officers at the restaurant. Two people who took the cash told police that Garrett had paid them $10 for the deed, and they agreed to call Garrett to arrange a meeting at a Goodwill store.
Police who went there found 16-year-old Samuel Aidoo standing by a trash bin and found he was carrying a knife. Garrett, who was at his nearby apartment with the son, saw the officers and fled, police said. The son then left the apartment.
Aidoo, 16, and Victoria Aidoo, 15, were arrested Wednesday. Garrett turned himself in the next day.

hahahahahah what are kids coming to these days. Funny how they actually paid a $10 for a carrier guy to receive the ransom. What a funny ass plan to just get $50, now they are going to be convicted felons.

Whats wrong with the father for calling the police over something like this... they're 17 year olds and its over $50. He should of dealt with it himself. Then called the kids parents, not the police.
Soon people are going to be calling the police when you bump into somebody by accident. Can't anybody deal with problems themselves anymore?
my opinion

Kidnapping is a serious felony. The kidnappers should have called the kids parents, and ask them for the money, instead of comitting a felony.

Sure. The kid's dad goes to deal with it himself and as a result ends up in either of the following situations.
A) He gets stabbed and if he is lucky, dies. If he is unlucky he ends with with massive hospital bills and chronic pain.
B) The kid's parents sue the dad because he assaulted their kids.

I would definetly call the police. If your son calls you on the phone, currently at knife point, and says you gotta pay his captors $50 or he's goin to get killed, I don't think I would take any chance of getting my son stabbed.
What are you going to do anyways, lets say you meet up at the point. You give the kids $50, or they still hold your son. They said they sent carriers, so the son wasn't there. So it's either you don't pay them, and you get worried your son gets stabbed, or you pay them, and let these assholes get away. $50 isn't the point, it's principle

Gotti, um... Hello?????? Kidnapping is a federal offense I am sorry, but if someone called me, ans said they were holding one of my children, be it for 5 dollars, or 500000000 dollars, I am calling the cops.
If you don't have kids, then I guess its easy to see just how you couldnt understand.

lmao.. you guys must of grown up in beverly hills or something, cause in my neighborhood parents wouldnt of dealt with it like that.
Sure kidnapping is a felony, but gimme a break, you guys need to grow some balls. Its a couple 17 year olds, not super criminals.
All he had to do is pay them, get his kid back and then call their parents since his son obviously knows them.
You guys prolly call the police if somebody bumps your cart at the grocery store
You dont have to agree with me, thats my opinion, thats how i was raised and thats how i would of handled it.
