Stock securtiy w/ aftermarket stereo

Well I recently bought my camaro and the last owner said the security system never worked.

The first owner had put in an aftermarket stereo that was later stolen, recovered, reinstalled, and did not work. I recently put in a new pioneer deck. As I understand, the security system and the stock radio have some sort of relation but the security system is not dependant on the stock radio.

I have the keyless entry, the panic button works, but when I press the lock button the doors locks but the security system does not arm.

Is there anyway to fix this?

i know the vats has to do with the radeo as far as re-doing the security system, but thats with the factory deck, u have a new deck so thats out the window, my vats starting acting weird after a storm one day and everytime i armed it, it started honking, i adjusted the shock senser and all and it kept doing it, i hated the damn thing myself, but it did keep some punks from steeling my tv and dvd player i must admitt, but for my 2 cents just scrap the vats idea, and just drop 2 hundred on a aftermarket alarm, that will fix everything, i have a top of the line viper remote start, remote windows, 2 way, the damn thing talks for god sake, im not saying go buck wild crazy or anything like i did but u can get yourself something to replace that thing

Nope, you are wrong. Not all Fbodys came with an entry alarm. All came with VATS(chip in key). The radio has nothing to do with anything but music. To test if you have an alarm, with the driver's door open press the lock button on the door. Then close it (either stay inside the car or have windows down). Wait about 30 sec. and open a door. The alarm should go off if you have it.

Another thing to do is pop the VIN at your dealer so they can find the options.
