high idle

My 1989 2.5 liter 4 cylinder 139,000 mile pickup has a high idle. Even after the truck warms up, the idle is very high. Also, the truck will stall and act like it is flooded, and smells gassy. I sometimes have to put the accelerator to the floor to clear out the cylinders when turning it over. Any ideas?
