2001 Camry: Keyless Remote Programming

Help!!!
I have a 2001 Camry and I just got a replacement remote (FCC ID: GQ43VT14T) that's exactly the same as my original remote. I have tried a few programming proceedures but none of them appear to be exactly for the 2001 Camry LE. I don't have the RS3200 system installed. I followed the instructions found at http://www.geocities.com/toyota_speed2003/keyless_entry.html which appears to be for the 2002+ Camry. I also tried proceedures for the 2000-2002 Avalon. Nothing is working. Hopefully somebody here can help because I really don't want to pay Toyota $80 to do a 1 minute proceedure.

Okay! Thanks to rmistry7 in another thread on this site and also some info I found in another forum site, I found the answer. I am going to post both methods as separate posts to try to avoid any confusion. Both appear to work fine.

Here is the method I received on a reply from rmistry7:

Here you go. It takes a while, but keep at it, it does work. Let me know how it turns out.

Toyota keyless remote programming instructions

Programming:

1)Driver's door open, all other doors closed, key removed from ignition
switch.

2)Insert key into ignition switch, then remove it.

3)Press LOCK and UNLOCK on the vehicle door lock control switch at 1 second
intervals 5 times.

4)Close and re-open driver's door.

5)Press LOCK and UNLOCK on the vehicle dorr lock control switch at 1 second
intervals 5 times.

6)Insert key into ignition switch.

7)Switch ignition ON and OFF twice to program a remote transmitter
code whilst erasing the original codes. Three times to check how many
remote transmitters are currently registered or five times to erase all
registered codes.

8)Remove key from ignition switch:
a)System should now lock unlock vehicle. Once , twice or five times
depending which mode has been selected. One to four times, slowly to
indicate number of remote transmitters registered.

9)Press and hold remote transmitter LOCK and UNLOCK buttons, together.

10)Press LOCK remote button for 1 second:
a)System should now lock and unlock vehicle once to confirm, twice to
indicate registration has failed.

11)If required repeat button procedure to program remaining remote
transmitters.

NOTE: To exit programming mode: Close driver's door or insert ignition key.

NOTE: A maximum of 4 remote transmitters can be programmed.

Here is a method I found at cartrackers forum (http://www.cartrackers.com/Forums/live/Toyota/79.html). This post emphasizes the importance of timing, which ultimately solved my problem.

1. Start with
a. No key in ignition
b. Driver's door unlocked
c. All other doors locked
d. Driver's door open
2. Insert key into ignition and remove
3. Press lock, pause, unlock (2 second total cycle) 5 times
4. Close, then open driver's door
5. Repeat lock, pause, unlock cycle 5 additional times
6. Insert key into ignition and turn from lock to "on" two
times (pause in
each location 1 second). (note: "ON" not accessory position)
7. Remove key from ignition
Locks should cycle twice. If not, start over.
8. Press lock and unlock buttons on transmitter
simultaneously for 1-2
seconds then release
9. Press lock and unlock buttons on transmitter again
simultaneously
for 1-2 seconds then release
10.Press lock alone for 1 second, then release
Locks should cycle once
11. Close Driver's door to exit program mode.
If you want to program more than one remote, repeat steps 8 - 10 with the second remote before finishing with #11.

Good luck! I had to try this many times before I got the
timing down
right. Go slower on each step rather than faster and you
will have
better luck.

Quick question - I'm a little confused. Will this program a new key fob to be like the initial key fob? Or will this do a reset that will require reprogramming both?

if you do step 7 in procedure one (step 6 in procedure two) twice...meaning turning to 'on' twice...it will reset all codes. So when you program remotes, you will have to reprogram the original remote so it picks up that code again also. Don't forget that, or you'll have to look an idiot opening and closing doors all over again to get both remotes.

Any time you program a new remote to your vehicle, you have to program ALL of your remotes that you want programmed...

Hi ION Frog,

Thank sooo much for your code. You're my lifesaver. The E-Bay seller didn't even have the program code that works. Thanks a bunch.

There are 2 remotes systems used by Toyota on the 99 Camry.

The FACTORY remote is FCC: GQ43VT7T.

The DEALER/PORT installed remote (referred to as VIP or RS3000) has FCC: BAB237131-022.

Different remotes, different programming procedures.

So after multiple attempts-- i am successful in programing the key fob...i get the 1 lock/un-lock confirmation...I close the door to the car. When i lock the doors with the key fob it locks/unlocks the car....but once I Start the car and then shut the car off it no longer works--- only a audible sound from the car...the only way to stop the sound is to hit the unlock button.

What gives??
