cool race

A guy at work tonight and I were talking about racing. Hes got a 93 or 94 some Ford Probe V6 that just had some work done to it. He was telling me about all the people hes raced and beat or run even with. Ive got a 95 Civic LX with an intake, and some exhaust work done to it. Nothing to much. I told him that I race alittle here and there. I was telling me how he can bark them in third an how much it will run and all this mumbo jumbo. Well tonight coming home I was behind him following him and we were on a dual lane road so I was going about 60-65 or so and he pulls up beside me and I could hear him drop it down a gear and take off, I didnt do anything at first so he got the impression that wasnt going to race, but instead I let him slow down to about the same speed as me and then decided to do the same thing I dropped it down to third or so sped up to about 80 and let off on it, anyways we kept doing that back and fourth for about a couple miles and we started getting on this long straightaway. We were both side by side going I'd say around 55-60 or so, he drops it down in third (probably) and starts pulling away so I was like f*** it what the he** I dropped down in third pulled away from him by about 75 went to fourth still pulling away from him by this time Im over 100 and hes right on my bumper but I start hitting above 110 or so and pull ahead of him by about 5 car lengths and hit up around 120 or above still got another gear to go.. Finally go to 5th around 122 or so and I see the in the rearview the head lights getting smaller, I finally let off on it after about a three mile stretch of high speed. I slow down and look over at the guy and he just looks straight ahead and keeps driving. :D Anxious to see what hes got to say tommorow lol..

His engine must have had a problem Probes are not good cars but still the V6 version had at least 160HP. Your LX has what 115HP. No way you would win.

03-28-2002, 12:51 AM
I did win and that wasnt no way to it... I passed him and I know he was trying to catch up but it just didnt happen. I figured he probably had a governer on his car that probably cut it off at around 110 or so because he couldnt catch up. Hey it was a race I won so what, if I known it will be all this shit about theres no way that I could win then I wouldnt have posted this in the first place. What a bunch of monkey crap!

I am not calling you a liar. what I am saying is that there was something wrong because under normal conditions he should have destroyed you. Maybe he was a bad driver, not racing you or his engine had some problem.

Seems like an awkward race. A little civ agians a nasty probe. Oh well i think the probe should've won( only because it supposidly has more power), but im glad to hear that a civic pulled through. Nice Work:D

ui knwo someone with a V6 mazda MX6 they are essentially the same
that person has lost to civics before and its got nothing to do with shifting the car is an Auto.... incidently she tried racing me so i floored it and the car drops a gear to about 3000rpm a bit low but that was only one gear i shoulda had it in sport mode then it woulda jumped to second o well 3rd was good enough and then i reached boost and vroom i was at 95 and she looked like a wet fish ok anyway she lost to civics before so i dun think they're too good a bunch of cars

Can those V6's be that crappy to be beaten by something with onlu 115HP?

My 2 cents.

Well tonight when I got off work I talked to the guy. I was like what happen man. Hes like I dont know you tell me, I was like why couldnt you keep up. He said that he downshifted and then thought I wasnt going to run and by the time I passed him he said he couldnt keep up. I was like yeah sure. I know he was running it because I could hear his engine winding out. Anyway to make a long story short I talked to a few friends that have raced him before and said that car doesnt have the juice. And he just had a new mazda v6 motor put in it. I guess sort of similiar to that mx6.. But it also might be with how he drives it too.
Do skills count as swerving in out of traffic at 115.. no wait thats just stupidity. Got to be a fool someway :sun:

Well, I have beaten numerous V6 mustangs and I am sure the mustangs are meant to be faster than a Probe.

Incorrect here. V6 Mustangs run low to mid 16s, while the Probe is capable of a low 15s under the care of a deft driver, but more often sees mid 15s.

Wow, why do they even make V6 mustangs? Well, nevermind I can answer that. Every 16 year old girl that lives around here drives a V6 Mustang auto, they ARE big money makers I guess.

...The v6 164hp engine for all 2nd generation probes is strictly mazda. The v6 for the 1st gens is the 3.0 Vulcan (american) - yet the 2.2l inline 4 is mazda as well...
...the mx6 shares key components with 2nd gen probes - like the v6... but what im getting at is this: if you won this so-called "race" with a 2nd gen probe GT - which does 0-to-60 stock, in 7.4 seconds... with your honda... there has to be something wrong with his GT. 1st gen turbo's are slightly faster than 2nd gen GT's...
...go to www.probetalk.com - with some decent work - not too extensive - you can juice a gt to start tearing cars like WS6's apart... as far as reliablility went - Probes were great - but if something did go wrong, or break - the shitty part was the expensive, expensive, exoensive replacement part cost.
As far as im concerned, Ford left the probe for dead, and it should've taken it much more seriously - performance wize it was amazing for the amount of horsepower it had, yet the torque numbers were always very respectable - but fact of the matter is, the probe changed the way the industry built sport compacts / hatchbacks - the styling was stolen from everything including Lazers, Saturns, Eclipses, Talons, ect... there were more prototypes of the Probe than almost any car ever made... infact, the 1989 Probe GT was inducted into the Detroit Auto Museum for these very facts earlier this year.

sorry, but something wasn't right there. I've driven a Civic LX and I don't care if you've done Intake, Headers, and Exhaust.. you were NOT going to beat a probe V6 in any race. He was probably just looking ahead because he stopped racing way back at 75 when you "started pulling on him".

Speaking of Probes....I got in behind one today cruising to work.
I couldn't tell if he had exhaust work done....or if it was just a tip...either way, it did not sound too good.
We merged onto the highway, not much traffic and I go to pass him doing about 60, he revs, I shift to 3rd and step on it.... hit 90, shift to 4th get up to about 110 and decide to slow it down....almost ran into a damn minivan
He ended up about 5 cars behind.
His ride did sound a little ragged out

Curb weight of a stick shift is 3114 lbs. That's not heavy. And 225 lbs of torque isn't a lot either. Hell my little 3.4 liter in my S-10 is pulling 240, that ain't much either though.

"" And 225 lbs of torque isn't a lot either. ""
...um, that's not to say that it isn't bad either. And first off, not to say anything about your S10-Xtreme.... because I dont know shit about that truck... but usually... in most trucks... the amount of torque is pretty large... not to mention that they're geared to "pull things" not accelerate or have the best top speeds...
...in other words, i dont know what the hell you're spouting these facts numbers for.... i mean, wasn't this an argument over an old civic vs. a 2nd gen Probe GT ?
I dunno... seems a no contest to me.

enough with the pointless quoting. I raced a Probe GT when I was in highschool driving a '91 Prelude SI (2.1 liter 140hp 5 speed). We were neck and neck the whole race, my Prelude (with my lack of driving skill) was probably running a high 16 low 17 if that. I know that they're capable of high 15's stock, but my friend with an MX6 (same thing as a probe GT) ran high 15's with a centerforce clutch, exhaust, intake, coilovers, etc... They're not very fast stock, the main difference between a v6 mx6 and a probe gt is the gearing of the tranny from what i've heard. The MX6 has a shorter final drive for better cruising where the probe is geared more sportilly, my friends MX6 had a probe gt tranny.

Anyway...stock the 0-to-60 time is 7.4 seconds 1st and 2nd gen GT's. But the 1st gen is like .5 seconds faster in the 1/4 mile....
...with an intake, exhaust (cat-back), and headers.... a 2nd gen GT starts getting pretty quick. Probe's aren't the fastest cars by any means - but for this original argument - I think the Probe either wasn't racing at all - or there was something wrong with it or the driver was retarded. :bloated:

ok... so if you passed him while he was cruising, then he tried to catch up, it does take a while regardless of the car, to catch up...
the probe is quick, especially against the civic lx... but hey... your word is your word. you are the one that sleeps on it, not me.
also... the s 10 has a 4.3, not a 3.4.
but 245 tq ain't bad at all...

There is no way the civic would beat a 2.4 v6 mx6/probe gt. ESPECIALLY at high rpm when the vris kicks in. The american mx6/probe gt's are equivalent to the american iintegra gsr's in stock 1/4, while the jspec mx6's are obviously a lot faster.

The JDM MX6 uses a different version of the K series motor, KLZE i believe and it makes around 200hp. It's a common swap for the Probe, MX6, and MX3 (it would be unruley in an MX3). I dunno who'd win, take it to the track and find out, my $.02

That's insane, it's hard to believe that the MX3 came stock with a 1.8 V6. I did a double take when i first heard that, crazy small for a V6 and it didn't really make much power. From what i've read the KLA (?) 2.5 V6 in USDM Probe's and MX6's takes very well to N2O, from what i've seen it's by far the most common power adder for those motors.
