2001 cavalier has new battery, new fuel pump and new filter. went out two days ago and tried to start the car, it won't start. everything comes on and it acts like it wants to start but it won't. some ppl have said its the timing chain others say an electrical problem? does anybody have any imput on why it won't start. it can't be the fuel pump, its less than a month old and i bought the pump new. thanks

Is it turning over at normal speed?. Have you checked for a spark and measured fuel pressure(even though it may not be the fuel pump, you may have a crimped/broken line or a problem with the regulator). Good Luck

it's most likely the ECU- the ECU transmits a signal to the gauge cluster- without that transmission the car WILL NOT START..no matter what u do. take ur ECU out and have it scanned.. unfortunatly, the only place to do that is a stealership. unless u wanna just tow the whole car and have it scanned in the car.
my cousins 01 2.2 cav did the same thing.. i dropped the tank, replaced all fuel lines, fuel filter, fuel sending unit and pump.. new battery.. even tried jumping it with my truck.. everything motor wise was new ( i had just rebuilt it for him ).. nothing. turns out, the ECU was shot and needed to be reflashed.
