Chirping Noise

OK, I have a 96 Explorer XLT 155,000 miles on it. 4.0L V6.
There is a intermitint chirping noise coming from under the hood.
Its not the belt, not the idler pully. Both replaced today. Its coming from the rear of the engine up top near the intake manifold.
Back towards the PVC valve. But thats not making the noise either.
Its driving me crazy. Does anyone have any idea or experience with this sound?
Thanks in advance.

Check the cam sensor and syncronizer assemblies. The syncronizer is bad about bending a little and contacting the cam sensor causing this noise. Good luck.

Where is the cam sensor? And what do the syncro's look like.
Why would them touching eachother make this noise. I thought the cam sensor was just an electrical plug.
Thank you for your response.

Don't know if you have resolved your problem yet, but I just replaced my Cam Positioning Sensor (OBDII code P0340). Sounds like the same problem, I had a chirping noise in the front of the motor which I thought was the waterpump bearing. Had a CEL and went to my Autozone for a quick diagnostic. Sure enough the code specified the cam sensor ($30.00). Took all of 20 minutes to install due to the dificult removal of a magnetic fragment that fell off of the sensor.
The sensor is more than a plug, it is like a mini distributor cap, but when the part breaks apart the pieces get jambed up inside causing the noise when the pieces align just so and the synchronizer spins underneath. Don't remove the sychronizer, just replace the sensor.
I used a 1/4 drive socket with a spinner handle and entered just below the plate holding the ignition modules. Very easy removal. Good luck

If you remove the sensor, look at the piece of metal that is almost a half citcle to be sure it is not damaged. If it is, you need to replace the syncronizer also.
