I think my subject says it all,but i need advice. Those finely cut files are too small to be cleaned out manually. So there must be a way chemicals can solve this problem? My files are clogged up with the usual debris; styrenedust, epoxifiller e.t.c. the usuall that sticks to it during filing.

So, how do you clean yor files? Thinner?( doesn`t remove filler or styrene) Some household cleaner, like Ajax? Tell me, it`s a pity to throwèm away although they`re cheap..

I've heard of using lacquer thinner to clean them, but I use a fine metal brush wheel in my dremel.

Carburetor Cleaner. Let them soak for a couple days.
Make sure you romove the handles if they have them. Hopefully they don't have permanent plastic handles or they will melt off.
After rinsing in water with a little detergent, a soft brass wire brush will clean them up nicely... - Mark

When I'm filing stuff I wipe them on my jeans every few minutes to keep the build up down. But after awhile, I'll have to clean them with something. Usually the tedious way with an X-Acto.

I just drop them in a container of lacquer thinner and brush them out with an old toothbrush.

If they are clogged with white metal you can use a soldering iron to melt out the metal.

You havent seen my jeans then. I guess I should post a pic . They have oil, grease, burns from welding, and all sorts of crap all over them. They also have some equations and measurements for the 1/6 written on them.
