Right now i am stuck on a project im eager to finish asap. Some of you might remember i started a projectect on a 1999 Ford Mustang convertible. Their are some problems i want to make it a drag car i finally decided to go with that. But since it is a convertible how can i make it a hard top and how can i instal drag racing tires that will fit good with minor modification?
Any help would be appreciated. Sorry i dont have any pics.
Ps it a Maisto 1:18 scale model.

About the only thing you could do is scratchbuild a hard top.
For the drag tires to fit it will require some modification and scratchbuilt suspension.

Yea. I believe NHRA states that for a legal pro stock drag car that the top cant be removable.

Heh, the Maisto Mustang convertable Drag car, I've done it, and it came out rather nice, what I did was used cardboard to make a custom hardtop, bondo'd it and all other holes and un-wanted indents in the body, then I bought a 1:18 Johnny Lightning Bad News II Drag Nomad, took the slicks and the motor, and this is the part that requires ALOT of modifications, I cut out BIG squares to accomidate the wheels and ground away all intrusions in the wheel wells of the body, then made a 100% custom suspension frame, and that was basically the jist of it, hope I helped. :D
Take a look at my Supra Drag car, it's basically the same deal.

Yeah, simple cardboard, just cut it to what you need plus tabs to band and glue, then shave it down, then enjoi.

If you do it that way you wont get the slick width, and it would just look gauty with tread, but if that's all you can get your mitts on, power to ya.

why waste it when you can just experiment and create new stuff.

exactly, electrical tape is great for slicks, last year in industrial tech, we had to make wooden drag cars, put them on string with space for a small CO2 cartridge, and we were the only group to use electrical tape on the wheels (just plastic). We won every single race (but not all because the tape ;)

Well, that will eliminate the tread problem, but still the width has to be addressed, if you use suv wheels your slicks will be about 1/3 the width of slicks, so if you can find a way around that, then you'll be sittin pretty. Kudos.

what if i put 2 together
crimsonkarter21
03-28-2005, 10:08 AM
then it will still be 2/3 the width... j/k
that would probably work, but I think that the slicks would look too animated.. you know? too shiny without any realistics
