ok. heres the info. i'm getting a 71 mustang. he's giving me a shortblock 302 highout put motor with it. he says that theres a mexican block in the car now. can anybody tell me what size it might be or did they only make one size? he said its built better and is better to build. whats the HP i might expect from theses motors. also the 302 highout put has a mild cam in it.

The mexican block he's refering to is likely a 302, I don't know of any others made in mexico. The mexican blocks were stronger than the normal 302 blocks, with thicker mains, and supposedly made of a metal with a higher nickel content for added strength. Stock it would be just like any other 302, so maybe 225-250 HP depending on heads, but the blocks are quite stout.

what might the high output be? also i know a guy that has a 95 5.0 mustang that says he can beat my 71. the motor thats in the 71 has a cam and intake and carb. his only has exhaust and headers. i don't know if the 71 one does or not.

Mexico only made a 302 block, since they were not regulated on there foundry process they made their blocks with a higher nickle content.

The only way to tell if its Mexican block, is to lift up the intake manifold, and it should have Mexico stamped in the lifter valley.
