vtec controller

I was looking at vtec controllers for my 97 civic ex i was wondering if anyone has hooked one up and how hard it is.

if you know how to cut a wire and solder, then you wont have a problem.

dont get one unless u have major engine upgrades and i dotn mean just i/h/e

I heard it can actually slow ur car down if u set it at lower rpms. DUn kno if its true.

ya because the higher lift is designed to make more power in thehigher rpm. honda set their vtec right where it should be.

i doubt a vtec controller would make much of a difference in a sohc civic anyway.

vtec was designed to give best of both worlds, good low rpm gas milage and high end performance. i forget who it was, but a member on the boards set his vtec to 2500 rpms, but it would only engage the larger lift if the throttle was more than 3/4 open. so if you were to do anything do something like that, so you can keep good milage but still have the power on tap when you need it. but as to the original question, i have no clue.

Only certain VTEC systems were designed for this, like the SOHC versions. DOHC VTEC engines are for performance only. Some VTEC system actually improve gas milage when they kick in. Anyhow, A VTEC controller is absolutley pointless unless you have internal work, cams or some other major modification and a dyno to tune it. I think that Honda pays there engineers plenty of money to set VTEC activation at the optimal point and someone just going an changing that point is ridiculous. I thinc those controllers are the biggest scam i the import market. Even if you really did need one, you can make one yourself simply with a switch and a shift light.
