Electric Brake Hookup

Looking to install an electric brake for towing my popup. I have the cable but I can't seem to locate the plug under the dash to plug it in. Can someone describe where this is on a 2001 Suburban? Any recommendation on the location of the brake would be helpful too.

Look in the "convienience center" located by the parking brake pedal. It has a cover on it.

Does this pop-up even have brakes most i have seen do not.

unscrew the nut on that big black box to the left of the brake pedal, pop off the cover.
The brake connector socket is the second from the left in the top row.
Flip over the cover and you see a label describing all the sockets.

There are pop-ups costing up to $15,000 that are a far cry from what they used to be.

As for the location of the brake controller, I put mine on the left side of the top ledge of the console. It fit into the gap under the cigarette lighter sockets.
I did not use a mounting bracket but big beads of silicone glue. Let that dry for a day, and it will not move, but can be taken out when selling the car.

This is a larger pop-up. 2000 Coleman Mesa that is about a ton. They have electric brakes standard on this model.

Camping World does the installs on the elec. brake control units for $64 - they do a very nice job. I just had it done on my '93. It cost a little more for me because I didn't have *any* trailer wiring yet.

Thanks for the info. Found it just as you described. I did find a large orange fuse on the cable also. Does this need to be installed along with the connector?

I can not answer specific questions a I do not know, what it is that you have.
I was assuming that you have a brake controller and a harness specific to GMC that goes with it.
But then the fuse question should not have come up.
So I really don't know, what is up.
As a general observation, the GMC tow package has all circuits pre-wired and fused. Look at the fuse names in the underhood fuse box. There is one marked trailer or tow or something like that.
You do have the tow package with the round 7 pin receptacle under the bumper?
Also, if there is a fuse then you usually are supposed to use it.
So please let me know exactly, what stuff you have.
The place where you got the trailer and the controller should be able to help you in no time flat, as they know what they sold you.
You really do not want to take chances on stuff like your trailer brake. Let them worry about it.

Install the fuse in the fuse panel under the hood. The label on the cover will show you where. Did same hookup on '04 Tahoe. Wire color code between controller & cable may be different.

Was this under fuse location STUD#1 in the underhood fuse panel a 40 amp Fuse? Let me know, i am hooking a brake controller up now.
