All right so currently own a 4th gen hatch and i may be upgrading to a 02 hatch si(13k). But im wondering about hte d17.
Why does it make the same hp as the 92-00 d16 vtecs?
Are the heads the same?
can the intake manifold and oher parts be exchanged?
Which tranny has better gearing of the d series??
BTW is the new SI faster the 99-00 si's? cuz 99-00 SI's run about 10k so id rather spend 3k on a turbo kit. thanx for your opinions

I cant really tell you too much about d series engines, however the new si's I can tell you everything you ever wanted to know and possibly much more...
Some people will tell you that the 99-00 si's are faster, in my experience they arent. One reason people tend to think they are faster is because they have been out longer and have a larger aftermarket, therefore many of them have been modified. Give the ep3 a little more time for the aftermarket to pick up a little bit then maybe more people will see the potential of the k20a3. Especially when crower finally comes out with those cams... i NEED those cams...

Its all a matter of opinion do you want a 6th gen civic ? or a 7th gen ? HP is roughly the same. Motors of course are different with the new SI's coming with the K series motors found in the base RSX. As for swapping parts they cant be swapped what so ever between gerantions. As for your D series engines the HP of those have been consistant across generations but you wont be finding any D series in SI models.

i think the new engines have more power in the lower rpms, maybe. the vtec rpm is different, i believe. there may also be an improvement in torque.
