I have a 92 Taurus L Wagon - recently I had problems with the car dying and not restarting. When the car died, I would cycle the key to the on position and the fuel pump would stay on and the cooling fan would run(ac switch off). The integrated control module was bad. Replaced and no more problems until about a week ago. Now the car cuts out (loses power) and the check engine light comes on when this is happening. Today my wife was driving it and she said that the car cut out twice and the headlights dimmed each time it happened. Has anyone else had this problem?? I have done alot of repairs to this car. It belonged to a family friend and it set up alot because of her health problems. The car only has 41000 miles on it. It is amazing what setting up will do to a car, even with low mileage. Ther are no codes stored as was the case when the integrated control module was bad. Any suggestions ??

Check all your connections on the alternator and battery. Check the alterator belt. You can even have them tested at your local autozone (I think). Check for corosion on the battey.

After alot of work and head scratching, I pulled the ECM as the last resort. I popped the top off of the computer and found the circuit board had burned slightly in a couple of places. Also had a sticky film all over circuit board, not to mention the smell. Replaced the ECM and problem is gone. I thought I would post this as a reference for the next poor guy that has a 92 driving them crazy.
