not exactly sure if i should go for it

I know this has been asked before in various ways. I'm not asking for you gys to make my mind for me or anything, just looking for advice.
I really want to turbo the 240, ive found the BoostDesigns kit to be pretty decent.
What I'm asking is is should I go for the stage 1 or stage 2. I will be leaving the block and most of the internals stock as I will not have a ton of money to spend.
stage 1 is the regular turbo setup while stage 2 has fuel upgrade and i believe 9:1 compression pistons.
Now my real concern is if my engine and transmission will be able to handle the boost. I have a 93 coupe with a lil over 123,000 miles on it. I've had it looked at and everything is said to be fine, but that wasnt checked out to be ok for a turbo.
Would you think turboing the car would be feasible and still be reliable or is that asking too much. I dont want to change from auto to 5 speed either because city driving and traffic is a hassle sometimes.
So do you think doing the turbo is too much to ask, and would i be able to expect it to be under 6 grand with labor included or am i out of my mind. if im out of my mind ill just leave the 240 for a daily and get another car to toy with.
help will be greatly appreciated, sorry for a reappearing topic, I hate it too, but I was just wondering reliability wise. Also sorry if alot of my questions and what not are all over the place, I'm niot really thinking right as of now, Illinois is scaring me.

He's got a point man. I used to love auto cuz it was so much easier to drive, but now that I know how to drive MANUAL its so much better and fun to drive than boring ass auto.

ya the manual tranny able to handle 300+ hp, stock, i dont know about auto, i mean manual is fun to drive and more control over power on the freeways and such.

Ya, well manual is out of the question, its a bitch in the city. Downshifting and shifting every 2 seconds to move 2 feet for 2 hours isnt fun. If I got a manual it would be another car.

So like lets say manual in a little city like Los Angeles is a piece of cake huh? And if u drove enough in manual u would know that ur 1st gear should be able to go up to at least 15. And unless ur going faster than 15mph in 2 feet, I would say go with AUTO.
P.S. And if u got another car in manual u wouldn't have to shift every 2 feet either?? HHMMM...

No, if I got another car it would be used strictly as a toy. I'm sorry, but to each his own, thats just fine and dandy if you dont like auto, but I dont have a problem with it, and I wouldnt spend money on changing it now, I would do that later down the road. My preference in either standard or auto really doesnt have to do with me asking if the turbo with as many miles I have on my car.

you should be ok if you have no leaks ie compression.. but it would really suck if the car you put it on was auto.. i'd say dont even bother cause i don't see the point of having a 2.4L turbo AUTO car.. the gear ratios might not even work with the whole setup.. it may but it'd be a bumpy ride..unless you're aiming for liuke 700hp then don't bother.. if you really want the turbo then don't go more than stage 1. the tranny may not be able to handle more than that..

i think you just have loads of money and is not quite sure how to spend it. In my opinion, i think you'll regret if you spent that much money on a auto 240... that you really don't care for... ( i mean you use it for a daily commuter and when it comes to a desireable car w/ stick you want something else)
save it for something else... get your other 'dream' car.

ya, all i pretty much want is stage 1 for now, I just wasnt sure about needing a fuel system, thats why i thought i mite need stage 2. if this can all be done for around 4-5 grand than im gonna go for it, if not theres other things I'll do with the car. This is my dream car tho, so I want to keep it, just making sure i wasnt going to blow the engine.

not so much for domestic v8s but an auto 4banger?? turbo?? i agree with logik, thats pretty sad. there's quite the difference in driving an auto turbo and 5 speed turbo.. its gonna throw your engine around..

That's not an answer to a question, that's a smart-ass remark. I don't believe the issue is whether or not he has an auto or a manual, the issue is about more power . Besides that, it's not like he asked it in a jerk-faced way. He was curious. It's a wonder people actually come to this forum to ask questions more than once, what with asshole members shooting things down right off the bat. You could have at least had the tact to say something in a more presentable manner. So...if you're done giving your ego a nice handjob, maybe someone who is actually going to contribute to this guys query can post:
If you want to add a litttle power to your car, you can always go the route of some performance headers with a good exhaust system, as well as an intake. It's not a turbo kit, but it can't hurt.
See logik, that was pretty easy, now wasn't it? I didn't have to make fun of his car or anything:grinno:.

Cool man, glad the search is going fine and all. Heres the thing, who are you to judge whether or not someone is worthy of having a car when in fact you do not have a 240 yourself. You say manual is better, I say I'll stick to auto. Until you actually get a 240 your remarks about whats manly and whats not are completely worthless. You have some serious envy problems right now man, its time to grow up.
And no I am not lazy, i came to the ppl that I thought would know best considering the mileage of the car. You cant ask google is 123,000 miles safe to boost up to around 7 psi.

where are all these people coming from... that's just the way logik replies. There are some individuals who give you straight up answers.. then there are others who question you to stimulate your brain and maybe even give you other options/ideas. I think this forum is great because we have that variety and there's always something new... (well most of the time). He isn't just simply out to get people... If EVERYONE replied with boring-generic answers.. this forum would be pointless. You'll basically get the same reply over and over again.
If you translate his first reply... it's basically saying "have you ever thought about a manual sports car instead of a upgraded automatic"... ( actually the tranny will last longer... and in the long run you'll be glad you got stick ) but of course that's just another forum user's opinion.. no one said you had to take it personally.

This is fun, alright, 91300zxtt, I didn't say you were lazy because you didn't search (which you didn't), I said you were lazy because you want a fast car, but won't deal with having a manual. And for the fact that I don't have a 240, does it change anything? I never said you weren't worthy of a 240SX, I said you were didn't need more power if you were to lazy to drive a manual. For FormulaLT1, I'm giving my opinion about his lazy ass, he can make what he wants of it. And you're proud of your automatic Firebird? Wow, you dumped 10 grand into the engine, and you're beating stock Civics and Focuses, I'm so impressed! Oh and 91300zxtt, I don't envy you, so get over yourself.

lol damn logik, ill smoke a fattie for you bro lol. And anyways, while were talking about giving good info...someone said to add headers and good exhaust for power. UMMMMM this is a four cylinder....headers and exhaust will give you a wopping 10 hps...if that, how do i know you ask?? I have an auto 240 with header back. I have a STOCK manual 240 also....guess which one will beat the other???? You guessed it the STICK. Logik gave him the best advice possible. DONT dump your money into a turbo on an auto 240, unless you have some serious intentions in your mind. A stage 1 turbo on an auto...will be slow still. Well actually why do you want to turbo the car in the first place???? i mean why waste the money on an auto that will still be slow as an auto? You just want to hear a BOV? Do you want better gas mileage? I just dont get the frickin point. I guess thats why all of us "regulars" seem to give smart ass remarks, because we see that its kinda pointless. Iv never heard of anyone turboing there car to get more power that they use to drive 2ft in traffic. I mean the turbo will give faster 2ft times, but the stock motor should be good for those close 2ft races. I drove an auto 240 for 4 years, had my stick for one hour, and was ready to never drive my auto again....but know shes my daily driver, and the stick i drive when i feel like layin some rubber. Not that much rubber because its stock lol. Plus if this is your dream car, why would not go balls out on it?? I just dont get this method of thinking i guess. O well your money your choice, good luck whatever you do.

Formulas run low 14's all day long, tell me what stock civic or focus runs that dude. Dropping even 1 grand into an lt1 is well worth the money. Dropping 10 grand into our cars will barely get us into the 13's.
