Stuck with a heater core

Hello all,
Back in August 2004, I replaced my heater core. At the first of this month (March), it started leaking. I took it to a local garage because I didn't want to deal with it again. He charged $400 (burned me, never goin' back). I wasn't thinking the old one he took out may still be under warranty, so I went back and got the old one and took it back to Advance where I purchased it. They said they could only do an exchange. I said cool, better than nothing. Now I'm stuck with a perfectly brand new heater core. Would it be best just to hang on to this one? Is it normal for a heater core to start leaking after 7 months? Thanks,
the Capt.

no not normal, my stock one is 7 years old, and im sure there are people with them from 96, with their stock ones, i would try for store credit or just hold on to it, wont hurt ne thing, and if you ever need it again, you have it

the exchange policy is the norm with car parts, too bad that your mechanic there didn't take it back for you. Did you tell him how old it was, and where you got it? You should have given him the recite to exchange it with.
What year of truck is it for? there is a chance that Someone on this forum might want to talk to you about it
for some cars $400.00 isn't that bad of a price for a heater core

well the job of changin the heater core is not bad at all, its how increadibly labor intencive it is getting to it that does it, its kind of like tranny work, easy to do, but so damn labor intencive with special tools they get away with arm, leg and first born child, i dont think you got ripped for how big of a job it is

it is labor intencive like i said, i would plan a weekend on it, just bc it sounds like youve never done one (not bad, alwse good to learn) and a buffer time just in case, pointers are be verry careful when removing the old one and extreamly careful when putting the new one in, dont wanna break it goin in!
