The short answer is usualy you don't :D
The long answer is if you happen to have $90,000 you can have MotoRex import an R34 (~70k for R33 and less for R32) Unless you want it for racing (on a track, with a racing team :D ) in which case you don't have to submit a complience package to the DOT and the EPA. There is much speculation about other ways to get them in that arn't exactialy legal but I wouldn't even bother looking into it because chances are you will get a speeding ticket, and if you could should happen to get impounded, the cat would be out of the bag. Now granted 90k does sound outragious, but its not. Motorex had to crash test these cars, they had to do untold hours of research to find out exactialy what had to be done with them to get them into complience.
Hope that helped ya some, if you need to know anything else post it up and I'm sure if I don't know the answer, someone else will :)

It is more than losing the car to the impound yard. There will also be the hefty fines that will accompany it as well.
Yes MotoRex is the ONLY legal importer of Skylines so far into the States. When I had my conversation with Sean of MotoRex a while back they crashed quite a few GTR's. Though he never explained what all had to be done to comply them, understandable, there is a lot of the selling fee wrapped up in labor to do so.

it is possible to bypass motorex and have it still be legal but you can only drive it 2500 miles a year and it has to be a special edition car that they made less than 400 of like the 400r tommy kaira GT-R's and certain years of V-Spec and M-Spec also you can't sell the car for a certain amount of years. the sun international , the people that put type-r engines in the elise to make it legal, the site was down when i went or I would have posted a url to be fare to motorex they had to custom fab a lot of stuff like seatbelt bracket bumper supports and even the objects in mirror are closer than they appear on the fucking mirrors also a new law states that any car motorex imports has to be at least 2 years old and I heard they car get you a near mint R-34 V-Spec in auctions over there for 34 thousand US dollars and then add the 22 thousand for conversion and the almost 70 thousand dollar bond you have to give dot to be sure the conversion is done , you get it back when dot gets certifies the conversion has been done, and also the various taxes and customs fees you have to give motorex credit as they actually had to import three GT-Rs and crash test them after they modded them to make sure they complied to US standard and crash tests. Basically the only way to get a GT-R that you can use as a daily driver LEGALLY is through MotoRex end of story unless you want to import 3 crash test them figure out how to mod them and become a certified Registered Importer (RI) yourself PEACE OUT:smoka:

You don't need motoRex for anything.. All you need is a R.I. Registerd Importer, its about 12k to import the car. The Bonds are not! 70k!!! I own a Skyline. When I was researching them, I tried Motorex. Fuck them you dont need to crash test shit. The only reason they did that was so they could make the BLack Bird out of it. Motorex cant legally sell a Skyline like they do and call it a Skyline. Thats why they changed the name to Black Bird or what ever. If you want one by it from a Action house in Jap. I find them all the time for 7.5k US doller. So your looking at 19.5k for a Skyline GTS 2.5 Type M. Not 30k-50k. Or a GTR33 for like 27k. As for the changes that need to be done, Lights, and thats it.. Your RI will take pic.'s of the other stuff, about 87 total. Then he will send everything off to THE DOT. Its a lot of bullshit, but in 2 months you will have a Skyline. But Motorex dose make it ALOT EASIER So, I just wanted to let you know of more options. Thank you :flipa: :sun:

But as far as I know, MotoRex is the only RI who can complience GTRs here in the US. Ask Sean if you want, he's on here as MotoRex I beleave.

Kluose in L.A. Area is a R.I that imports Skylines. Just look up R.I. on the DMV website. Next the names it will tell you if they import from Japan. They are all over CA. L.A. would be the best because they come in the port down there. ;)

Hmm Very interesting. You say look it up on the Cali DMV site?
If this is so, why does MotoRex act asthough they are the only people who can bring the Skyline to the US legaly?

Of course they do.. Its more business for them. They have very good marketing. Also, they sell the skyline as Blackbird. The do this so they can put the car on an open market. My friend recently bought one from them, the only thing is that its left hand drive.. Shity.... The car is regesterd as a blackbird/skyline. not just a R34...

AFAIK, one has been sold as Blackbird, the rest have been sold as Skylines. I don't think Blackbird was a LHD and if you want it to be LHD you will have to custom order it, my GT-R from Motorex is RHD.

Guys let me get this straight...... You buy a car from Japan, import it here in the USA. That will cost you like around 30K. Then you have to got to mototrex to change it to make it legal... is that correct??How much dose that cost?? For a R33 would it be chaeper on mototrex or importing it?? Also, how much dose the Left hand drive change cost??

rust,
I would like to see your skyline? Do you have any pics? Who did you go through to get yours?
G20,
30k for a R33 and 17k for pre 96 Skylines, 25k for 96 and up added onto that 30k to make the car US legal.

:bandit: Well first off all to start off the R34 in Japan only runs for about Y4,500,000(37,500USD). So i think that motorex is pricing it alittle to much. And that since it only cost about $27,000 to conform it and about $5,000 to ship it. YOu would bo saving alot if you had shiped your self. Also theres a site that ships themfor you. Go to www.j-garage.com he handles all of the shipping. After that all you have to is take it to motorex to do the work and you just saved about $30,000. I hope it heped you.:smoker2:

Jease people where do you get your information? First and FOREMOST you cannot convert a Skyline GTR to LHD. That would mean you would have to run the steering column right though the turbo's and manifolds. Im sure theres plenty more but just not its not sanely possible.
Also what the hell is this about naming an r34 blackbird? Blackbird is a name Hiro gave the car because it was to be his car to show the potential of the gtr, and lo and behold the car was all BLACK. But right after he got it completed (500whp, full kit, system, etc) pretty boy Paul Walker from the fast and the furious bought it and painted it a candy blue flake. Btw the ff part 2 will be using blackbird as the lead car. Although it wont be black (some silver/blue color now).
RustCAT: id love to see your gtr, post some pics of it. What model/year is it?
Ok on the price subject...
