I was wondering how you fold down the back seat of a 1997 Pontiac grand am. Is there a special way to do it?

If your car doesnt have the little pull releases hanging in the trunk then you can't. Well you can, if you look in the trunk, near the top, where you can see the speakers, you will see three little hook things sticking through, these hold the seat on, if you want, and i caution you, they will break if bent too much, you can bend these up and the seats will fold down. But you will be bending the bottom part as well. So yea if there arent little realeases hanging from the top of your trunk, you cant.

The fold down rear seat was an option, your car may not be equipped with it. Use caution if you are going to fold down the seat if it is not the actual folding rear seat option

Like they said above ^^^^,
Removal is as follows, NON-folding seat.
Unfasten rear seat cushion retaining bolts, they are located [2 of them] under the seat cushion, ya may have to move the seat cushion around to access these bolts.
Lift up and out to remove seat cushion, that then exposdes the seatback bolts.
2 more bolts to undo.
Grasp bottom of seatback, pull out and up to disengage the upper hooks of the seat back from the metal frame supports.
Torque is seat cushion anchor bolts 26ft. lbs
seat back is 17 ft.lbs.
