Wells its seems now my sunfire is going to the scrap for good, after going thru 3 engines ( the first a 2200sfi at 40k km, second 2.4l dohc dead at 58k km, and now another 2200sfi dead at 66k) im going to have to throw in the towel...it seems to me that gm just isnt what it once was mostly now its made of crap put together so they can try and sell a cheap car thats garanteed to break. Now i know im just ranting here but i used to defend sunfires till the last but after this i just cant stand it anymore as far as im concerned gm can just rot in hell. Hehe as much as i hate em i might just settle for a civic from now on...stupid ricers peices of junk but at least they last a good long while as my gf's 1986 is still around with 380k on it never rebuilt no troubles other then a water pump. If you ever consider buying a sunfire dont because it will give you more headaches then anything else. Anywho my rant is over let the flaming begin but it doesnt change anything GM is as good as dead to me and unless they come to my door step and apologize in person i aint so much as ever going to look at another GM car again. :disappoin

I feel the same as I just had a gaz pump and head gasket replaced.
That cost me $1900 but I have to admit I did not pay alot for that car brand new.....still, I lost 4 days with this mess and had to tow it 2 times.
Last time I buy GM cars....

well, you must realize that the sunfire is basically a cookie cutter car. everything is so over manufactured, due to the sheer volume made.
but, don't let one crappy brand of car sour yor taste for a whole vehicle division. so you would pass up a corvette if one was offered to you, because of problems with a low rent sunfire?
don't be to hasty. calm down, and you will/should be able to change your mind in a few weeks or so.

YES! I would pass one up!
Even my mother-in-law's $60,000 2004 Cadillac Escalade EXT has problems!
I'll never buy another GM product, and if one was offered to me for free (like that's going to happen), I'd sell it and buy a Honda/Acura.

from personal experience with an 86 vette id say yes id pass any gm car made up to today :P
Mind you this is been a long time coming my Family and i have owned nothing but gm, and i have noticed that all the cars had horrible problems the best car that i ever had made by gm was a 1986 pontiac firefly that thing went on for ages till it got into an accident and had to go to the graveyard  so honestly i figure its about time to say fek gm ive defended it for long enough i used to love my sunfire and it repayed me with what its become today an overpriced paper weight so thats that gm can go to hell in a hand basket and one more thing ill dance on its grave too :evillol:

if you don't go GM, go with a nice import, since ferd is no better anymore. I believe the imports are somewhat cheaper AND better built these days. it all comes down to the greed in the company, and the loss of pride in the workers.

my first (and current) car is a sunfire and it hasn't been too good to me. I've only had the car since august and already have had to get the timing belt replaced, a new fuel pump, some electrical work done (check engine and some other warning light) and endless other repairs. However, you get what you pay for, and as far as the sunfires and cavaliers go, I think the quality is about adequate. They are good on gas and and have a sporty appeal, but as far as quality and power (hah, what power) they are pretty shitty. I don't know if it's just my car, but it can barely go up steep hills. I wish it was more powerful. For example, my friend drives a honda from the late 80's and I took it for a drive once and it's overall performance was uncomparable to my little sunfires. Oh well.
